05/02/2013 – A peaceful, easy feeling

05/02/201325

There was a sense of calm across the bay this morning.  Gone are the crashing waves, the mountains of
seaweed, the rain and the over abundance of celebs!

Today it was all about the swim as 118 B&B’s gathered for the daily dip.  While not exactly sunny, the buzz of the
welcoming chatter is comforting compensation for even the most stubborn of
morning blues.

As the big hand hits 12 – it’s time to hit the water!

Thankfully there is always lots of company to
distract you from the first rush of the cold water. . .

Although early swimmer Lauren assured me that
the swim was amazing.

Visibility was not fabulous, but there were a few of these
remarkable jellyfish swimming with us.  How is it that Stephen Coulter manages to find a lovely pink variety? However, mine were a little
less colourful.  There was a little
concern at Shelly that these might be of the ‘bitey’ variety. . .

Two of the newbies – Tom and Will are visiting from the
UK!  So lovely to see that Josephine was following
the B&B code of looking after new swimmers.

The Shelly stop provided the most beautiful of double rainbows as captured
by Stephen

No it’s not a cry of pain  it is the ‘let’s go!’ to head back to Manly.

Gorgeous photo of Lucy (courtesy of Stephen)

A safe return with, as you can see, zero waves – just a bit of yucky seaweed underfoot.

. . .and a reminder (if you can) to help out the little marine critters by taking some of the human ribbish

Although the ‘dramatic’ weather has left us for now – it is always important to swim within your limits.  Michael Christie’s tips on how to stay safe are an important feature of the blog and personally I have found them invaluable. These tips help beginners and advanced swimmers alike – Please read it here or read it again if you already have!

There was a little talk about wetsuits today – which are best, how to you choose one, etc.  No worries!  As a card carrying B&B you can check out the sponsors and choose from the assortment of lovely providers who will be ever so helpful.

If you are looking for a little local merriment, then tonight is meet the cast night at Glen Street Theatre.  Managing Carmen by David Williamson is a hoot – tonight the show starts at 6.30pm so you will be home before 9pm!  Don’t miss it as it finishes Saturday and then that is it!!  The special offer for the B&B is $53 for Adult evening ticket plus a free drink for all evening performances . (That’s a saving of $10 off the full ticket price.)  Please use the codeword BOLD to redeem this offer online or over then phone.

There was a young writer, Elaine,
Who could draw while she swam in the rain!
    Her blogs were superb,
    Such hilarious blurb,
And enjoyed by, Yours Faithfully, Jane

Just a friendly reminder to all B&Bers that if you do join us for our fabulously priced $10 breaky at blue water, that we sit at the back of the cafe to get our fabulous deal and service. It really is a great deal and they try hard to accommodate all of us and their regular public patrons, so please obey their request and join us at the back for some friendly chatter over your morning cuppa 🙂

Thanks Alyson. I have another friendly reminder. If you enjoy the friendly chatter over breakfast, you may also enjoy the more animated banter at Murrays on Wednesday night (13th) next week from 6-30 pm, when all B&B swimmers can partake of the local beverages at happy hour prices. It would be great to meet and chat with new swimmers as well as old in pleasant relaxed surroundings, so don’t be afraid(unless a woman called Elaine approaches you and tries to lure you to the Boatshed).

Beatiful swim today. Great blog Mary!
Momentum is gathering for a slow Bolderdash tomorrow morning. Little Sarah has been recruiting all week.
I plan to be there too. So you know it’s gonna be super slow. Expect frequent coffee breaks and stops to watch the sunrise.
We start around 5:40 so that we’re comfortably back at the point in time to join the 7am swim.
    See you there!

    Great blog Mary.
Also hank you for taking the time this morning to ask about dolphins.
If Stephen K at the Ozmus wants to know anything about my slimy friends, feel free to give him my number.
    That reminds me.,
It was Drinkies birthday yesterday so all those who missed out on giving him a birthday kiss (as he was not in attendance), has another chance tomorrow. Im sure he will appreciate it.
Note – he is an early lapper and will be emerging out of the water at around 655 am tomorrow.
    Back to you Mary. 🙂

    What an extraordinarily beautiful jellyfish!!
I’ve never seen one like that.
The other one with the bunch of bananas hanging down in very common. Used to see heaps of them in the harbour when I was a kid.
    And yes they do sting!

Well the two that I saw were much closer to the colour of the one in the Wikipedia link.
The first one didn’t have any tentacles, but then another went past with four tentacles all about the same length of the jellyfish.

Further to DWSS comments, Andrew D turned 45 yesterday. He’s feeling a bit blue at the moment, having turned the corner to middle age. I’m sure any attention given to this shy retiring gentle man would be much appreciated, birthday kisses, cakes and cuddles – he thrives on them!
    HAPPY 45TH ANDREW!!!!

Great pics and blog, Mary! Kystyna, star blog tart! And Jo, lovely to have you swimming with us again:-)
Yes, I’ve had a little difficulty with the recruiting drive for the Bouldercrawl….no one seems to believe I can swim after such a long break and I can see the panic in people’s eyes at the idea of keeping me company “all the way” to Queensie and on to Shelly, starting in the dark…
Still, the good, faithful Lips, Jon & Bob are joining me…..anyone else welcome!
