Yesterday I was shocked when I got to The Point….because….
EVERYONE was actually at The Point!!!
How fantastic! 🙂
The only issue I have though is some ‘rogue’ person keeps yelling Let’s GO!! If you don’t wish to wait then just keep swimming however please don’t yell Let’s Go!

I asked Jules to email me a few words together about ‘the essence’ of Bold and Beautiful…. However it could never take a few words to describe it! Jules sent me this:
“B&B is truly unique, and there are not just one or two people who will attest to that but literally thousands !

And Thank YOU Jules!!
And now a short blog about today’s swim! 🙂
The water was smoother, even though there were some waves …but nothing we couldn’t deal with easily!

I saw this blubber on the way over! You gotta keep your eyes open for creatures! So many people passed over it without stopping! Shelly can wait!
Check out the little fish inside!

Ian trying to recreate that now famous Stephen Calendar Photo! 🙂
Helen celebrated her birthday in BnB Style!
and with a crash tackle from Sven…
LOVELY!
Congrats to Paige for reaching 500 km’s!
Water Temp: 21.8
Swimmers: 117 (positively quiet!)

Signing off: Lesbubbles – MAKE SURE YOU KEEP READING DOWN! As there are some
important announcements at the bottom!!

Dusky Whaler Research and we can be part of it!

Ocean scientist, Dr Belinda Curley is beginning research on Dusky Whalers in Cabbage Tree Bay. She has asked for assistance from the Bold and Beautiful.
Each morning please comment on the blog if you see any Dusky Whalers during your swim – the number spotted will be fine for starters. Also – VERY IMPORTANT – blog if you do NOT see any. If you are the first to blog “NO WHALERS TODAY” then others will only have to report if they have spotted any.
Belinda is developing a protocol for more detailed observation which we will hear more about shortly. Stay tuned.
(Belinda will also be talking at the next BnB monthly dinner!)
Also….
I am sure you’ve all heard of or met the lovely Miles Tollan?

Well… Miles is swimming the English Channel THIS JULY!! He said that all the training and so forth in the lead up to this HUGE swim has been a very interesting ride!! SO he has decided to a blog about it all!
You can read Miles blog here http://frostybubbles.wordpress.com – he assures me it will be very saucy in some places so maybe for adults only! 😉

ALSO!
Another message from Jules!
The last leg of their paddle is from Manly to Bondi on Australia Day, 26th Jan. They need to leave Manly Beach between 6 – 6.30am as they need to arrive at Bondi by 9am (as they have an interview with the Today show at 9 !!).
If anyone would like to don a pink cap on Tony and Michael as they set off please feel free ! If you’re a competent paddler and you’d like to join them for the last 10km of their journey to Bondi please do, but please note you must absolutely be competent and be able to take care of yourself out there. But please, consider getting down the beach a little early Australia Day, like 6am, and give the guys a massive cheer with your pink caps on. They know all about you and they’d love to see you!
Check out their Facebook page ‘The Big Blue Paddle’ and their website www.thebigbluepaddle.com

B&B Attendance i-log!
Now that the new work year has kicked in, save time and be ever so efficient, by using the B&B i-log. It’s a smart phone friendly website so no need to download, just bookmark it. There are so many good reasons to use the B&B Login – like no queues, no need for glasses to find your name, never missing the 7am call, and you can do it on the bus or ferry on the way to work.
Log your swim ANYTIME that day for an easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboyo@gmail.com). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.
Summer badge swims
Every Saturday during summer there will be a 6km swim – usual route is to Freshwater and back; then once a month there is a 10km swim – this is to South Curl Curl and back. However, the final route depends on conditions that day so it is a good idea to arrive a little early to have a briefing from the designated swim leader. Both swims kick off at 7am.

The proposed date for the next 10km swim is 15 February depending on conditions. This date will depend on final confirmation of local surf carnivals so keep checking the blog for updates.
Bolderdash
To Queenscliff and back. Every morning during summer, LEAVING the surf club at 5.50am. Wait for everyone in the water before the swim starts. Buddy up with someone, usually the same ‘speed’, that way everyone is ‘accounted for’ at Queenscliff.
2014 B&B Calendar ON SALE NOW!!
Get one for yourself or pin it up at work. Give one to friends or send them overseas to the family back home. Only $15!

Great Blog Lesley. So much going on. I will try to get down early on Sunday for the paddleboarders. Great idea to get Julie to write in for the blog also.

Thanks for the shout out, Lesbubbles! Yeah, I am stoked to get my 500 km badge! (Sorry I couldn’t join the regular swim to celebrate the milestone in style, but I had together an earlier start happening this morning.)

Great blog Lesley,
I think the dusky whalers study at the bay is a great innitiative.
Unfortunately I havent seen many since last winter. There was one off the point yesterday and the day before, havent seen any today. I hope it’s the first sign of their return to the bay this summer.
Duskies are very shy but found out last year they can approach a diver with curiosity if he/her keeps still and dont make sudden moves. As any other shark, they are amazing creatures to watch and a better understanding on their behaviour is definitely needed in order to help change their bad reputation.

Not competitive? Not competitive!!! I think there are amore than just a few blokes who missed that line on the sign up sheet 😉
And no, of course not, I have never tried to race anyone back from Shelly (really……)

I did not see any Duskies today. In fact I think I will repeat my limerick from last year:
The Duskies in Cabbage Tree Bay
Used to swim with us all every day.
But where have they gone?
Do I see them? Not one!
Dear Duskies, please come back and play! 😢

I’m glad all the regulars have to swim at the back of the pack on Australia Day. That is my normal position, despite all efforts to the contrary.

Sorry to hog the Blog, but: have you seen the new B&B coloured hoodie towels? (i.e. personalised dressing tents – room for two if so inclined). They are sensational. I will model mine tomorrow.

So this Saturday from Halfway to Shelly and then back to the surf club. Got it!
Great blog. Look forward to reading Miles’ part later. Can’t open it at work as I’m sure the content amounts to an HR violation.
Happy Birthday Duckie!
Back to Jane..

I am intrigued to know why the swim on Saturday will start at Shelly and how that will impact the 6km swim that day. Good luck to the paddlers – Beyond Blue is a good cause. Good luck to Miles for the Channel crossing. Also, that is the jelly fish I cam across. Yikes.

Saw 2 Duskies. One small before the point and a larger one 200 meters from Shelly.

Not sure what qualified me for swimmer of the day. I reckon its either one of Magnus’s random algorithms, or somebody from the higher order (Ian, Lesbubbles?) is playing dart with our name tags.
Regardless, I very much enjoyed the swim this morning, maybe it’s still to do with my deprivation from swimming for the last 3 weeks. Austria was nice for skiing, but the mountain lakes over there are simply to cold for a swim, especially in winter. Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Great blog and once again inspirational words from Jules ! Haven’t swum for two days and missing it already!!! Just love the B&B and the wonderful friendships that have formed over the past 5 years. Ps good idea to keep away from the surf club and ramp both before and after the swim as already suggested. The Manly Open carnival is the biggest SLS carnival in NSW outside of State Championships. In fairness to all let’s keep well out of their way.

Wow, Lesley, if you got paid by the word you’d be rich! And they’re all good, informative, interesting words too. I especially liked “hug them at the end”.

Great to read some words from Jules and another great blog Lesbubbles.
Ian just can’t substitute for my lovely husband in that shot though, but good try!
