28/12/2014 – Slow News Day

28/12/201417

December 28th is traditionally a slow news day for the B&B blog. It’s that lull between the first two of the Summer Triple Crown swims and the all important 3rd one on NYE. It’s that day after the B&B anniversary with all its cakes and speeches. It’s Brendan’s BBQ hangover day.

Nonetheless, a total of at least 184 swimmers joined us today. And this is their story..

It looked like a small crowd initially. At 6:40am, there were barely 30 people gathering in front of the surf club..

This being a slow news day, I resorted to asking people what they got for Christmas*.
(*I took the liberty of guessing some of these)

Derek: “Xbox 360 and Grand Theft Auto V”

Ted: “A set of Boatshed beer mugs”

Elaine: “A vintage swim suit”

Fifi: “An acrylic block with a whale in it.”

Elizabeth: “A puppy!”

Shaun: “A Tool Box!!”

Jasmine: “A Polaroid camera!”

Anna: “A stack of 20 ct coins for the showers!”

Jane: “A 1000km badge!!”  (yep, keep rubbing it in Jane..)

First-time swimmers Nicky and Lara:

The 7am mob is making its way down the ramp, into the seaweed soup..

Chris spots the blog camera and strikes a pose – he’s a pro:

Best hangover cure in the world.. straight from the Boatshed into the ocean:

JK’s absence means ‘The Point’ is a vague concept these days..

Shelly was buzzing:

The A-Team is getting the hang of blog tarting lately:

Did we mention Jane’s 1000km? To celebrate the occasion, she was given the honour of shouting ‘Let’s Go!’ at Shelly this morning. Clearly savouring ever moment of it..

What followed was a textbook false start by the A-Team. Jane had barely utterted the word ‘Let’s’ when she was mowed down by a nasty cocktail of testosterone and adrenaline..

All was forgotten about 20 minutes later, when Jane paraded up the ramp to celebrate her 1000km badge in traditional Bold & Beautiful sash and tiara.

Towards the end of the procession, someone pinched Jane’s bottom. A minor hiccup in an otherwise dignified celebration..

There is a new puppy in town – her name is Alice and she’s already camera trained:

Sky came down for a token dip.. (note the dry hair below)

The Benches:

The Bikies:

Walk of shame: Peter and his gorgeous kids. Peter missed his swim this morning. He blames champagne. Tsk Tsk.

Triple Crown News #1 – Brad’s Shoulder:

There are rumours circulating that this year’s favourite, Brad Edwards, is suffering from a shoulder ‘tenseness’ just days before the all important 3rd leg of the Summer Triple Crown Challenge on Wednesday. We will monitor the situation closely and provide updates on the blog daily.

Triple Crown News #2 – Age Groups:

I am informed (by Brad) that, for the first time in the history of the Triple Crown, there will be age groups for Wednesday’s race.

Below a first draft of entrants that have registered so far. Age groups are estimates (by Brad), so please dont be offended if you ended up in the wrong bracket.

These are the rules:

  • Be there 20mins before 7am to “enter” with Brad
  • No wetsuits or supersuits
  • Must have a minimum of 35km on pacific challenge
  • First to the beach wins

Also, if there are any 40-49 ladies who are interested – please message Brad on Facebook. For the race that is.

This all but concludes today’s blog.

Special Thanks:

While all the limelight was on Jane, special mention should also go to Anne, who did a tremendous job this morning organizing newbies, taking finger prints and urine samples, etc.

Anne and Jill will be standing  in for Ian and John while they take a well-deserved break for the next few weeks.  We expect to have lots of new swimmers and returning swimmers during this time.  There are a few things that you can do to help ensure that we get everyone in the water by 7am each morning.

·         Keep an eye out for new swimmers, welcome them and direct them to the sign-in sheets.

·         And for returning swimmers who might still be looking for the check list. Let them know how it works now and encourage them to iLog.

·         Keep the area around the sign-in sheets clear so that we can move this process along.

·         If you are not already iLogging, email your name to ugoboy@gmail.com so that we can set you up.

·         Wait at the point before swimming to Shelly.

·         Enjoy your swim!

STATS:

Temp:           21.3

Newbies:       24, including Nicky and Lara

Swimmers:    184 and counting..

Have a great Sunday!

Love the blog, Lips! We had a beautiful swim in a beautiful Bangkok pool this morning, BUT no comparison with a B&B swim, especially our lovely B’ellies & 6Ks!

I spoke to Jane this morning and as expected, even though she has now gained “Legend Status” as a 1000k swimmer,
Jane wants to be treated like everyone else. Please no bowing, No Special treatment.
    Jane demands it!
    Lips – worst blog EVA!

Thankyou DWSS – especially considering that all you have to do to reach 1000km is to survive that long……
