IMPORTANT NOTICE
NB One! Tomorrow Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th January, our swims will commence at (be starting from) Shelly Beach at 7 am. This is necessary due to major Surf Carnivals being held at Manly SLSC … and up towards Queenscliff. Please do NOT leave your belongings at the surf club, as they will obstruct the running of the events. There will NOT BE a 6-k swim on the Saturday

—
Storchy is Scorchio: Indiana take-down at 6.08 a.m.

—
Peter and the Flying Dutchman swam to Queenscliff today. “Well, he’s not flying this morning, is he? He’s late.” They got up close to the charter boat checking shark nets. Onboard were a red kelpie and a female fisheries/police officer.

—
Young Thomas: a very fast swimming member of Manly SLC. He’s as quick as Brad. A towel worth dacking … (Photo taken 27th Dec)

—
NB Two: I have discovered that swimmers should never leave their kit near this dog

—
The A-Team turned up in force yesterday … (NB Three: As with any image you see on all our blogs, clicking on it will enlarge for better viewing)

—
Two country girls from Orange: Newbie sisters Tara and Lucy train regularly, but always inland and in fresh waters. Today is a big moment for them; taking to the ocean. Their mum says not to mention the word ‘Shark’ …

—
A professional photographer is here early this morning, working for a real estate agency. Sterling does a quick clique-shift to secure extra exposure …

—
The next level: Someone had scones at sunny benches this morning, complete with whipped cream. Awesome!! Please remember that anyone is welcome at these benches (in front of Telstra phone box). This is a great place to meet people, and feel how welcoming and inclusive the Bolds are. Please come … you must. (Pic by Stephen Coulter)

Is this King Joffrey ..? Jeff tries the 1000K mantle on for size

—
My daughter and I did a lizard count yesterday, along the rock walls by stairs. We saw 12. If ever you spot lizard thieves, please call police (000) and keep tabs until they arrive

NB Four: “Second Tues of the Month” entertainment returns for Feb.

The Novotel Manly Pacific is generously hosting a fundraising Karaoke Night for B&B swimmers and their friends/families to entertain each other and enjoy the night away. Dress as a rock star – there will be prizes for best dressed. Details are:
DATE: Tuesday 10th February
TIME: 6.30 pm
VENUE: Novotel Manly Pacific (above Daniel San bar)

Don’t worry if you think you can’t sing, just come along and support/heckle your fellow swimmers who think they can. This event will be loads of fun, with plenty of laughs. The entry cost includes finger food and your first drink FREE. All proceeds will go to the running of the B&B.

—
Quizz time: Whose tatt is that? (Relations or partners ineligible to enter)

NB Five:
AUSTRALIA DAY
As usual, Australia Day will be massive. We will be meeting back at the surf club as normal. Please try to arrive early and wait on the beach if possible to avoid congestion on the walkway. This year, we are encouraging everyone to wear our national colours/flags or other paraphernalia. It should be an impressive sight.
More importantly, we are using the occasion to raise money for our favourite charity Royal Far West Children’s Home. We ask everyone to bring along a gold coin donation to say thank you to RFW, who manage all of our merchandise for us. If you are planning to bring new swimming friends along, can you please make sure you arrive in plenty of time to get them registered. Make sure they bring a gold coin as well.

Check those gorgeous shoulders! Rob rows with Warriewood’s surfboats, crewing with The Rustys. She is seat four, at front of boat … looking back to Rusty the Sweep. Rob is part of a group going to Gallipoli in April for a two-day rowing adventure which coincides with Anzac 2015. Older lifesaving surfboats are being shipped across, and will be left there after the event – in an act of generosity from participating surf clubs. Rob got knocked down under a boat last week.

—
Albums and engines: I’m mentioning this second-hand music albums shop, as I think it will appeal to many in our group. It is hidden under an old building next to Freedom. It has a few choppers, bike paraphernalia … and the odd bike engine under some record displays. I think it’s well worth a visit!

NB Six:
Seaside Keep Cups: the Bolds are an ocean-loving group, and are once again taking action to protect it. Backbone members Jenny, Anna and Attracta have realised that an extraordinary amount of take-away coffee cups are being consumed each week by many of us. They have launched “Seaside Keep Cups” – a push for the use of re-usable cups. These women will be collecting ’50-cent fines’ for any of us found using the cardboard throw-aways. (One warning will be issued.) All fines will be donated to Manly Women’s Shelter. There are dozens of commercial take-away coffee holders on the market. I’m getting one immediately. What a great idea … well done those women!!

Great blog Roger, I am impressed with the graphics as well.
You have obviously spent a lot of time working through BandB issues and observing.
Thank you for taking the time to blog. Legend.
Great work Alison and Kevin, movers and shakers.
Special mention to Brendan, 127km in the last 30 Days! That’s huge!
Brendan, ferry rides don’t count, you can’t tick them as a 6km swim.
