Roger here – blogging for ‘Shelly Beach’, who is away all week doing Coxwain’s course. Sketchy rain overnight, but the clouds didn’t warm the ambient air. Still 4º this morning. Water still crystal. Someone left the fridge door open at Shelly Beach again. No sun to warm the bodies after exit.

Amazing drone footage posted on Facebook yesterday – via talents of Youtube dude Olefin1. It runs for eight minutes, and is exquisite. Click on link:

Security is thick on the ground from 7 a.m, preparing for arrival of PM Tony Abbott – who will be attending a function upstairs at the surf club …

Midge and bucket full of devon. She is well-known by all the regular dogs here, for her kindness and reliability with the treats … Gabby’s dog Juno (pictured) was bereft yesterday, when Midge didn’t turn up.

The Thin Blue Line @ Bluewater
Next Tuesday 14th July – $25 per head

Our next speaker is David Walton. David was in charge of the internal affairs operation into the Manly Police in the Noughties. This was a time when a few locals (both law enforcement and colourful identities) were put before the courts for corruption-related activity. David has the inside “underbelly” story of what “went down” and the technology used to catch the culprits. Click link to book your seat. These evenings are a great way to meet your fellow swimmers!

Fifi E-D took this stunning photo at 6.05 a.m. yesterday. (Click to expand.) Her flash even breached the shallows, probably shocking the pants off those stingray cubs that are always laying in wait. Go, Clair!

Shadow Boxer
Yes, last Friday’s answer was Ian McKnight. Liz X got it first, but one and all were united in recognising the ‘Altar Boy’ silhouette 🙂

Abbott groupies in wait … 7.25 and counting

6.30 guns Alex, Shannon and Greta are fair dinkum athletes. Greta’s just come off a marathon run on Gold Coast last weekend, and the body is resisting today’s swim. Legends all!

Hudson over the Simpson
Alistair L and Jim H are back now, after nearly three weeks and 6000 Ks across the desert, in 4WDs with friends from Manly and Balgowlah. But now it’s time to get back into the ocean, lads

This medallion has been hanging on the hooks for about eight days now … fast becoming homeless.

Jane Stevenson says Brendan Maher and Roger Harvey look alike. Because she’s always banging on about Aldi, I’m posting this – just to prove her wrong. Brendan has only swum 93 kilometres in the past 30 days. Wh@t @ sl@ck@rse!

Two newbies today. Hello Kay, from ACT. Her daughter lives in Seaforth, and we’ll be seeing more of them soon …

Most of Ed Selby was down at the Club yesterday. (He’s left 17 kg back at the hospital – on the other side of sickness.) Ed’s colour is back (to normal), and he’s looking brilliant. Good stuff 🙂

Today’s A-Team hit-out was won by the Spaniard. I have decided to take a closer look at this group, to seek the reasons for their speed.

“JP” is a former pentathlon competitor, and trained up at Narrabeen. His best time for 50 metres in the pool is 26 seconds. Say hello to him … he’ll instantly put a smile on your face, with his boyish enthusiasm.

Management in the Desert
Ian Forster will be back next Thursday. Meanwhile, this water report just in –
Dubai Weather Report
Sunny and hot
Air temp – 42 º
Water temp – 27 º (after refrigeration)

Ted was visibly chuffed to have caught this burglar – found hiding in Drinky’s corner yesterday, after nearly everyone had left. She was pretending to sip tea, which was what first made Ted suspicious. (Aussies only drink coffee on yuppy beachfronts.) “I was just going to take the stuff that gets left behind,” she protested.

Social Agenda One
Local businessman Jim Stackpool (Jimbledick) is having a “business re-naming” launch in Manly next Thursday night, and Pink Cappers are most welcome
Art Hub Manly – 44 Market Lane (between beach end of Corso and Sydney Road)
Thursday 16th July
6 p.m. – For free drinks and nibbles (Don’t dawdle – it ends at 7.30)
“And a boring ten-minute speech,” says Jim 🙂

Social Agenda Two
Drinks with Drinky: “For just this once, start time is 7 pm – not 6.30,” says Andrew.
Friday 17th July
Havana Beach Restaurant (upstairs) – across road from Sunny Benches

The PM did but pass us by, about 7.45 a.m.

By 8.05, all were gone – except for these five fine fellows. And only then did the sun came out!

Lost Beanie
Did anyone pick up a gray two-toned beanie in past few days? Gray with gray horizontal, thin stripes. Sentimental value. If found, please see Sylvia or Roger …

Temp: I missed it, but Shelly beach; well, it was two degrees colder in there
Newbies: two

Hilarious as usual, Roger. But you cheated even more than you tried to in that doppelganger photo – even the REAL Roger pic doesn’t look like you! (or Brendan if it comes to that).

……and by the way, Roger, I got a down-filled puffer vest at Aldi after the swim this morning, reduced from $29.99 to $19.99! So there.

I was going to comfort Jim with the statement that my name for “sealice” is “boobylice”, for equally obvious reasons (though not quite so painful ones).

Another Sensation Roger!
Who invited Tony?

Perhaps it was a Surf Club launch of 2016 line of Budgie Smugglers …?
Jane, I reckon Aldi’s Distribution Centre HQ is probably somewhere in Chernobyl, where rents are dead-cheap and large buildings are available …
Wouldn’t it have been a classic is someone got a photo of Rainer p/bombing The PM! And then those security officers tackling him to the ground. I counted about six bodyguards in and around the Clubrooms and beach ramp …

Wow! And thats in his own seat where, one would assume given that he keeps getting elected, most people like him. I wonder how many body guards he would need to visit a safe ALP seat.

I don’t think JP needs any more promoting than he already does for himself Roge!!
Yeh know what you mean about Jane + Aldi! I bet her comedian son-in-law talks about it in one of his skits eh Jane?? LOL
I overheard the Iron Women talking in the changing rooms yesterday- it was like ‘i did 2 marathons last weekend’ ‘oh I ran to Brisbane and back as a warm up on Friday night’ – It made my half swim to Shelly sound pathetic.. Hey but i BET they all wear wetsuits – NOT ME!
