It’s a special day of love today but for us at the B&B we are always looking at the swim with a heart shaped lens.
Of course, Valentines Day is meant for people who have a secret love and use the day as a way to get connected, or not. Now I’ve heard there are some secret loves at the swim and some new romances just bursting to bud. But your humble blogger wont be running any scandals. I just refuse to spill the beans on my mate Errol.
Looking at the swim from the Point I am reminded of the little locks on the fence. These are put there by couples who symbolise their love. Some of the locks are from local couples and some are from couples now overseas. I’m left to wonder whether this is just Wilf’s romances..

Some of the love is of the ocean, some is for friends, some for partners, some for mates… lots of ways to love on Valentines today.

And of course there’s the love of mates like Ryan bringing his newbie mate Phil down for his first swim.

Hope you get lots of love today…
Pete Anthony

Drum lines in Manly
SMART (Shark Management Alert in Real Time) drumlines will be trialled off Sydney beaches from Barrenjoey to Newport and from Dee Why to Manly as part of a three month trial.
From 10 February to 12 May 2019, 20 SMART drumlines will be trialled at Palm, Whale, Avalon, Bilgola, Newport, Manly, Queenscliff, Freshwater, Curl Curl and Dee Why beaches near existing shark nets.
This technology has achieved strong results on both the North and South Coast and will now be tested at some of the State’s most popular beaches. There is no intention to remove shark nets from Sydney, Wollongong or Newcastle beaches.
SMART drumlines allow contractors to humanely and safely catch sharks, tag them and then relocate them away from swimmers and surfers before releasing them. When a tagged shark is detected, the community is instantly alerted through the SharkSmart App and Twitter feeds.

The drumlines will be set 500 metres offshore every morning (weather permitting) and collected at the end of each day. They consist of two buoys and a satellite-linked communications unit, which is attached to a hook baited with a single mullet.
DPI will host a series of community drop-in stands at trial beaches today and in the coming weeks to speak with locals about how SMART drumlines operate and share results from previous trials.

Nice blog Pete. I’ll have to start quizzing Errol and Wilf on their valentines. Pretty sure Wilf’s is only Rose though 😉 I never knew that about the locks on the railing at the point. Thanks!
