6/11/18 – Warm and Salpy

November 6, 20181

With an ever so gentle 3-5 knots of NNW wind washing in, I fully expected a chilly water temperature but no, 20.3 and balmy, definitely no wetsuits required and with an hour to run to high tide it was a case of great conditions once you got past the trifle jelly mix through the middle. Not much in the way of visibility with a milky start that clears at the point then faded again.

256 players today with 3 newbies and a bigger and bigger 6:30 c0ntingent. I headed out with the Martin express at 6:45 so caught the flotilla heading over as we returned. Buoyed on by the of 157-day cheeky swim by Ross Edgley around the UK, I felt like we had somehow had contributed as we continue to circumnavigate Australia in the Pacific challenge. 1 overnight would be enough for me, let alone 156 of them. Well done Ross.

Someone left their Tonka toys at the beach.

Note the 20 degree water temps as Ian signs up another player.

The 6:45 runway looking clear for launch

Not many takers but enough for a start.

As Martin took off at a blistering pace, I struggled to get a few pics on the way over

And this guy taking the low road

And finally, Shelley, looking a little forlorn in her mottled greys.

Quite a difference to an earlier day with Dave Champion and Sheena O’Brien celebrating making it all the way with PB.

Look closely and you can see the Flotilla on the march coming towards the 6:45 crew.

And as the greys gather, Martin paces into the home run having survived the oncoming flotilla in one piece.

Something about the mottled greens on a grey day. Great swim despite the Jelly session.

Have a great week people and next time you are thinking Shelley is too far think about Ross Edgely who hasnt set foot on land since June 1, swimming 12 hours a day.

Ross Edgley after 153 days at Sea. Thats 1909 laps of Shelley and back.

And not to be outdone, Ian Mcknight and his brave band of Goa swimmers, havent made it to the water yet but getting closer.
