3 August 2018 Smoke on the water (again)

August 3, 20183

Another Smoky day in Sydney. We poor asthmatics! Enough back burning for me.

I have been watching Tony Robinsons’s Ancient English  Walks where he is going along the Ickneild way. By now there are surely grooves in various paths as swimmers (especially regulars) make their way from home using their usual path, parking in the usual spots, walking to the usual bag drop area. future generations will marvel at these paths

Here is Andrew (on the left) who baked his first cake today. That group of trekkers into the swim have cake every week and still not fat! He did not try something easy either – orange and almond. I think it would have been great

Another go at selfies. Better this time

Don’t forget to beat a path to the cake stall tomorrow. I remember the drought that affected Sydney for a long while and we had to be careful not to water gardens etc. I still think of water as such a precious resource. Imagine the farmers of NSW in drought for 10 years plus

Management notices:

210 swimmers

2 newbies

16.9 degrees

Cake Stall

We are having a cake stall on Saturday morning to raise much needed funds to help our struggling farmers. There are 2 charities we can support – “Aussie Helpers” and “Drought Angels” – both of which are distributing funds, food vouchers etc to those in need.
You can drop off your treats (and/or donations) Saturday from 6.15am.
Let’s get behind this one and see if we can make a record! $1500 would do that, but it would be REALLY great if we can “SMASH” the record 😜 Here’s a link to an article outlining the difficulties faced by one family …

Monthly Dinner – 14th August 2018 – Guest Speaker

The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 14th August at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest speaker on the night will be B&B swimmer, Brendan Maher. Brendan, who describes himself as a very average swimmer, managed to overcome a chronic shoulder injury and swim the English Channel in July 2017. He will speak of his motivation, training for the swim, and what it’s like for the average swimmer to attempt a marathon swim. This talk will be an inspiration to all of us who count ourselves in the ‘B Team’ (or even the Zeds!).

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.

Doesn’t Nat look FAB? But then everyone in your blogs always looks extra photogenic. Your camera brings out the best. Thanks Elizabeth
PS Didn’t Anne Cleeve dodge one of Henry viii’s bullets?
PPS I dare Elaine de Jager to find anything ‘smutty’ in my blog comment today 😉
