29/05/2016 Introducing your Sunday blog team

May 29, 201615

Sunday sees a gorgeous sunrise, flat calm warm waters, the A team in training and the Bold & Beautiful swim…of course!

I haven’t been down for a while, so I was particularly happy to be met with near perfect conditions.

Today, I thought I would introduce you to the Sunday blog team – we’ve been on a recruiting mission and I’m glad to say we have some new faces joining our exclusive team. That means, for you, the reader you’ll get to hear from all of us, a different person each week.

So, here we go and I’ve ordered these in length of service, long serving members through to our newbies.

Sharon (Snorkles) approx 1 1/2 years

Gone are the days of the Stephen and Sharon team, when we used to hibernate in a corner of bluewater and write the blog live straight from swimming.

S+S soon, became S, and I did a solo effort for a few months – which is about the same time as my nickname came along ‘Snorkles’. Continuing neck issues meant a Doctors opinion that I should stop swimming. This wasn’t an option for me and so using a snorkel and fins became the norm, and I could continue jumping in and swimming.

 Rainer (Lips) approx 1 year

So on my recruiting mission I went and I managed to persuade the King of Blogtarting* that life behind the camera is as much fun as in front of it.

In the early days, I could always persuade Rainer that there was a photo opportunity at every swim stroke and doing something (anything) to get a photo in the blog became almost a full time job.

The blogs he writes ooze his humour and wit, oh and have a strong intellectual side too, of course.

Today, he is joined with his daughter who thankfully keeps him under control.

Emma (Inner Westies) – approx 9 months

We needed another person, and along came Emma. Emma has been fantastic and taken up most of the weekends (as I have turned to cycling a little more these days). Emma has a great knack of getting photos of lots of swimmers and remembering their names for the blog. Here she is enjoying a well earned break from blogging in the Maldives.

Trainee Michael (Thunderbird) – in training first blog NEXT WEEKEND!!

I have a feeling we are going to enjoy blogs from Michael, I dunno, but there is something in this next photo that I just get that feeling. Welcome to the team Michael and we are looking forward to your blog next Sunday!

Trainee Eugene (Gino)-  first blog appearing in a couple of weeks

 ?

Gino answered the blogging ad with the following comment, how could he not become part of the team with those skills? We look forward to reading your first blog.

Hey hey, If still need a blogger, I would be keen! have done a bit of writing, standup comedy and marketing before and am down there most mornings #funemployed! Cheers Gino

So there you have it, our team. Now you know all of us, please do say Hello on a Sunday and we will make sure we include you in the blog.

*Blogtarting = a recreational activity which involves the ability to continually appear in front of the camera, doing something silly, or basically anything really.

*B & B Trivia Night*

As you are aware B&B is a free for all activity, but there are ongoing
costs that need to be met.  To help support B&B and keep it the wonderful,
inclusive, growing phenomena that it is we will be arranging a fund-raising
Trivia Night at The Steyne Hotel on Tuesday 12th July. Please keep this
date free so you can come along. In order to make this event a success, we
are asking for:

– volunteers to assist in the organisation of the event
– donation of goods and or services that can be used as auction items or
raffle prizes

If you can assist with either of these can you please contact John Kelly  (
jmk@balancemanagement.net.au).

*Winter Badge*

It’s nearly that time again. Winter is coming … and so are the winter
badges. The winter swimming season runs from 1 June to 31 August, and to
qualify for your winter badge, you must:

– swim at least 20 times during this period
– swim in at least 7 different weeks
– log your swims

To qualify for the WWW badge (winter without wetsuit) you must complete all
of the above without wearing a wetsuit or any other form of bodily thermal
enhancement (don’t forget to check the “without wetsuit” button on the log
in screen). Why not give it a try? Any questions – email Ian (
ugoboyo@gmail.com)

Did anyone leave a wetsuit and black cosie in the ladies change room today? I found it and have it, let me know if it’s yours and I can arrange to bring it back.

Love the Sunday Blogging Pecking Order! And great to see another fun Snorkles blog – we’ve missed you!
But hey, I thought I recruited you and Lips (or at least told Jules you were both ripe for the picking!)
And what’s this about saying Hello on a Sunday and being automatically included in the blog? I said ‘Hello”?…..just saying!

You are so right LSA – you badgered Lips into it!
Best to not let facts get in the way of a great story!!!

It’s all a big pyramid scheme. Lesbubbles had to recruit 2 new bloggers before we allowed her to leave. Now she can finally dedicate more time to looking after her cats.
Great blog Snorks. Next time, try and use less photos without me in them. People don’t have time for that.

Lips, I don’t understand. As I approach my first blogger role next weekend I have been perusing past blogs and thought that it was one of the mandatory conditions that you are featured at least once. Also, this morning there was a note left in my joggers from you giving your time of arrival next Sunday and that you prefer profile shots from the left. As a novice blogger it is all very confusing.
I will now have to turn to the blog master, Roger for further clarification.

Awww Snorks I had a far better photo that could have introduced Thunderbird. One of him at a skinny swim with only his pink cap strategically held infront for modesty! Nice blog and good to have the background to Sunday bloggers. It seems so much longer than one year since Lips has been blogging somehow! Looking forward to Thunderbird next week too!

As I said – why let facts get in the way of a cracking blog!
Special mention to Lesbubbles and her fill in’s, and there was a time when young Jones would provide her perspective on life and swimming.

Yeh, I was waiting for that second instalment too, having been promised some special spready fame and pics….those were the days….. Now Snorkles only turns up once in 3 months and forgets the stars, the new B&B hoodies don’t have any bubbles, The A-team are all out of action because of the chill in the air and swim times on a Sunday are every 5 mins from 6am til midday it seems…:-))
