28/10/2011 – Postcard from Palm Beach

October 28, 20118

77 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

6 people did an early lap to Queenscliff and back this morning with the sun rising before 6am.

Bolderdash officially starts this Monday !  Meaning that every Mon, Wed & Fri mornings for the duration of summer there will be the extra swim to Queenscliff and back leaving Manly at 5.50am, back in time to join the regular 7am swim to Shelly and back 🙂  Usual deal; flippers, snorkels, wetsuits welcome, whatever it takes to enable you to participate and enjoy your swim, but… everyone swims at their own risk at all times.

Courtesy of James Goins, this morning we have some beautiful photos and a postcard from Palm Beach ! Received from James Ley, Ben Hutt and Len Power.  The Three Amigos passed the 22.5 km mark and it’ll be safety in numbers as they head across the mouth of Broken Bay on B&B’s Pacific Challenge 🙂

Don’t know what we’re talking about…  Click here or on the Pacific Challenge link to the left of this blog anytime, it’s pretty damn cool 🙂

Apparently the Japanese want to kill more than 900 whales under the cover of ‘research’… They kill and butcher the whales at sea and package the meat for sale in Japan on board their factory ship !  They tell the world they are doing scientific research !

Help stop the Japanese killing whales in our Southern oceans.

Stephen Coulter kindly brought this to our attention.  The Sea Shepherd need your help to protect the whales from the Japanese harpoon ships.

You may wish to show your support and come along and meet Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd vessel Steve Irwin and the founder of Sea Shepherd !  To read more please visit their website: my.seashepherd.org

Happy Birthday to Jade Harkness today 🙂

Tim’s fact of the day: “Octopuses are excellent climbers.  They have suction cups under their tentacles that help them stick to everything.”

Water Temperature 19.4 degrees.
Air Temperature 15 degrees.
Sunrise 5.59am.
Sunset 7.19pm.
High Tide: 9.49am.
Low Tide: 4.23pm.

Iain, you’re doing that thing again in the fourth photo, is it some strange warm up routine?

Nah, I think he was just super excited when he saw me run past like a ghaselle through the shallow water. Eh, Iain?

Btw, has anyone ever seen any scientific conclusions come out of the Japanese ‘scientific’ whaling? You would think that ONE specimen would be enough for science.
Also, plenty of scientific gains could be made from studying the LIVE whales.
I’ll get off mi soap box now. Temporarily.

    Anna,
The Japanese ‘scientific study’ is about animal populations and how many you can kill and how quickly they will recover……
What we need to do is create a law or constitutional change that recognizes Whales as citizens of Australia (a bit like India has a bill of rights for cows).

Roberto, Richard, Cai, James Goins, Ben Hutt, Brendan & Iain…. That makes the “superhero 7” (ask Roberto for reference) that did the Bolderdash not six.
In other news Iain should get back to work and be thankful he has a blog to write on.

I only caught up with the end of the superhero 7 conversation… but I quite like being thought of in that context!!!
