36 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
5 people endured an early stingerdash, with most of them escaping at North Steyne on the way back after their encounters with bluies, but they weren’t totally deterred as they jumped back in again for a bluie free swim with the rest of us to Shelly and back.
It’s certainly a bleak morning,
you could be forgiven for thinking we were coming into winter with the cold wind and cooler water temperatures, a few swimmers have snuck back into their weties, can’t say I blame them…
A little bit of swell off the beach, making for an entertaining start and finish to our swim with a jimble convention off the point. All in all an exciting start to the day with happy faces at Manly Wine for brekkie 😉
Thanks to James Goins and Michael Christie for this mornings lovely photos. James particularly likes the fifth photo of “the minister being smashed by the opposition” 🙂
Hopefully you will have all received yesterday’s newsletter with our upcoming exciting festive activities. There’s lots coming up, so please have a read. If you didn’t receive it please check your junk folder and if its not there please let me know so you don’t miss out.
Tomorrow is a day worth swimming for as Michael Christie’s back in the water !! 🙂 So come on down, you never know your efforts might just be rewarded with a special treat at brekkie… 😉
Jonny Schaffer has a friend from South Africa taking part in the Freedom Swim; Robben Island to Big Bay (in South Africa) on 28th April 2012. Jonny will be over there too, but needs a little support from his fellow B&B swimmers to be convinced that he can handle the possibly 12 degree waters for this 7.5km swim. If anyone is keen to participate in this swim, Jonny says he friend would be able to help with guidance of logistics etc… Also Nicky Piha has been support crew for this swim a number of times so I’m sure she would be happy to chat with anyone at brekkie who is considering it too… 🙂
Tim’s fact of the day: “A shark may grow and use over 20 000 teeth in its lifetime.”
Manly Wine, as part of their continual support to Bold & Beautiful have offered a special deal for group bookings for birthday dinners / special occasions. So if any of you guys are looking for somewhere to host your celebrations, mention Bold & Beautiful to Vanessa at your time of booking and she will look after you.

Not the best of days…
Left arm aching, with cold, goose pimpled and sweaty patches from bluebottle stinger (does anyone else have this weird reaction?)
Aching joints and shivering from the perishing cold…
See you all tomorrow?

I had the same reaction to the one that got me on the forearm three weeks ago. Don’t worry it passes after a few weeks 🙂
It was an interesting swim back into the southerly from Queensie. My tendency to drift out to sea took me round the bluebottles. Maybe you are the new Bluebottle Magnet?
Back for more tomorrow. I might even do an official Bolderdash !

Oh dear, all these terrible symptoms. I wish there was a way to avoid the stings and the cold. Oh wait, there is.
With love from the suited gal 🙂

i have discovered a wonderful new swimming style. Swimming with your legs and fingers crossed. My cosie bottom’s elastic had persihed and the waves and kicking had them heading south. Back into the full suit tomorrow!

Some footage taken during the halftime break of the stingerdash swim this morning. Really captures the feeling. Note the kitesurfer in the background, he’s pretty good. Hear the boys calling out to Brendan. No stings on him!

Hi Guys, if you have been stung you must do the following. Hot hot bath for as long as you can. Do this each day you have the stings. See your doctor and check you can use them but I found that Panadeine with Clarantine as per instructions give me the best relief. Several years ago I swam the Beach to Bridge and finnished through a 3km swarm of Blueys so if experience counts for anything this may help. Best remedy is hot hot bath.

Hi Cae,
as far as I know, everyone does this. You find your shirt etc sticks to the sting for a few days to a week, as it continues to ooze fluid. I think it is sweat.

Hoping all the stung people recover, great advice from Alex; add a fair amount of swearing to his remedies and you’ll feel sooooo much better.
Dear Tim, as long as those sharks don’t use/loose any of their teeth on me, I’m very happy to keep swimming.
Who is the ‘chocolate Movember’ participant in the last photo?

Yeah coming head first into that swarm of jimbles whilst tackling waves and trying to master my new stroke as taught by Jules made for an challenging swim!!
I agree with Alex hot water seems to take the edge off stings! Though knowing it will soon pass also helps 😉
Is that a Chocolate Mo that George is sporting? cute!! 😉
Bikini bottoms and waves don’t mix Izzy! 😉
