You know that metaphor about the oyster and a pearl? The pearl being created by sand irritating the oyster – a good thing resulting from a bad situation etc…
I’m not sure the pearl is actually the end result of this process. Really the result is the feeling of ease. Which, of course, was the goal in the first place.
The pearl is a by-product of the goal to go from what currently is, to finding what’s possible. It represents the efforts made by the oyster in moving toward inner peace, layer by layer. The pearl being the doing, not the result. Given a constant state of ease, pearls would actually be absent.
The inner journeys to find peace in our circumstance are an opportunity to bring great beauty into the world.

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
And now, a request from management. The coming Tuesday is ANZAC Day and we are expecting a large turnout including some not so experienced swimmers. The request is can regulars please swim round the outside (yes, like buffalo girls, all you eighties kids) to perform something like a shepherding function. And if you have a board or something and only if you feel like it could you please bring it and use it? Thanks very much.

Hello Julie,
today is a bit of a milestone for me; I finally climbed up to equal kms with you on the Manly Pacific Challenge list.
I did not want to just shoot past you (our hero and founder) by doubling on this spectacular morning so I just swam 1.5 km and will sit there with you for a day or so: =104th at 1041.0 km.
Tomorrow ANZAC Day will be a big one for many of our swimmers and different from the usual public holiday swim.
Thanks for your huge part in creating something wonderful that thousands of people have enjoyed and have made a major part of their life.
Good luck in WA and hope to see you again soon,
Kierin
