22/07/2011 – Ripped Off

July 22, 20117

34 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Cae Toleman and Iain McGregor are the heroes of the morning having completed the bonus early lap at 6.20am.

The waves were large and the rip was pumping !

As you can see from today’s photo some people went in through the waves and the rest of us sensible swimmers took the high road to half way beach. They say the camera never lies, but…. it looks from the photo that Robin Turner chose the high road to half way but he22/07/2011 - Ripped Off didn’t, he had a last minute change of heart and braved the surf, or so we thought… but when the hardy swimmers got out past the point they got whisked up past the Royal Far West Children’s Hospital, resulting in many of them, including Chris Cameron-Doe, Patrick Coleman, Robin Turner and Stephen Coulter thinking better of it as they had been ripped off… so they swam all the way back in and ran to half beach to join the upper echelons 😉

Jan Beacham on the other hand decided the surf wasn’t going to get one over her so se went back out on her own and conquered it, well done Jan !

Charlie Champin was amongst the half a dozen or so swimmers who made it out on round one and then borrowed one of Tim Holloway’s flippers so they could each swim circles around each other all the way to Shelly Beach 😉

The water was turbulent and just a tad murky but it was certainly an eventful and fun packed morning.

James and Nicolee Goins are off to the USA today for a month, oh my gosh we miss you guys, and James’s photos already… Can’t wait to see your on tour photos as they come through guys, have a great holiday !!

Chris Cameron-Doe is going under the knife today, we wish you a speedy recovery so we can see you back in the water asap Chris 🙂

Water Temperature 19.0 degrees.
Air Temperature 12 degrees.
Sunrise 6.55am.
Sunset 5.08pm.
Low Tide: 6.38am.
High Tide: 1.07pm.

    Scary swim out this morning!
At breakfast we were talking about selective Facebook posts and I said I’d share how to here:
Let’s say you only want to post to Bold & Beautiful friends.
Go to Profile, Edit Friends, Create a List
Create a List called Bold & Beautiful
Select friends to add to the list
    Save the list
    That’s doen and there forever
Now when you want to post – write a post as you normally would then…
Click the drop down arrow next to the padlock
    Select customise
Select Make this visible to specific people
    Type Bold & Beautiful
    Save setting
    Share
This post will only to to your friends you’ve put on your B&B list
    Method 2
Go to B&B Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/boldandbeautifulswims
“Like” the page, you’ll now receive updates
Write a post on this page.
It will go to anyone else that’s liked it – so not your friends necessarilly, but anyone who follows the B&B page
So Method 1 is the more precise only to your friends in the B&B
Method 2 goes to anyone following the B&B whether you know them or not.

Last week’s jelly ID: Michael Dawson, Biology Prof. from Uni of California, says “Yes, this is a species of Aequorea, (umbrella jelly). The taxonomy of the genus is in need of revision, so it’s not possible yet to assign a species identification with confidence”.
Stephen, would you confirm if they are your photos so they can be credited to you? They are just as good as those in the textbook!

I think you are incredibly brave B&B swimmers who have ventured out there this week. Well done Jules for starting up such a fantastic group and for you all for being so friendly, supportive and welcoming to newcomers. I’ve only done it about 6 times but intend to do many more. However daunting it seems at 7pm I always feel on a high the rest of the day!
