Important notice! TRIVIA NIGHT 2017
Most years we have a highly attended, memorable and much loved Trivia Night at The Steyne Hotel. This year’s is on 18th July at 6.30pm with a great meal, John Kelly’s wit and charm in comparing the trivia, lots of fun and merriment. The theme is ‘Nautical’ or rather ‘Naughty- cal’!!! (Think saucy pirate wenches, Johnny Depp take-offs, sexy sailors, mermaids and mermen. You could even come as a randy Cuttlefish!) It’s only $30 per person and you can book a table with friends or we can sort you out with lovely swimmers on a friendly table. There will be raffles, prizes, silent auction so if you please have anything you can contribute please let Roz Beaver, Janet Franks or myself know. We already have Sydney Sail days donated, nights at Whale Beach B&B, original artworks, signed sports jerseys, mounted marine life photos and would appreciate anything you can offer! We are raising money for Dr Ray’s charity Australians for Women’s Health which desperately needs a women’s hospital built in the poorest part of Nepal.
Roz has been working tirelessly to get the ticket booking system up and running so click on this link to book.

Can you believe around 100 people turned up for The Andrew Drinkwater Skinny B&B Swim yesterday? A day early because Drinky was going off on holiday. What a turn out at 6.20am on a rainy old morning… Anyway back to today’s swim… A bit quieter today with cold air temperatures on the actual Winter Solstice but the sun came out and water temp a lot warmer than on this day previous years. Some of the happy crowd at Shelly above!
There was a bit of discussion as to wether to go through the waves today but most people decided to wait for ‘sets’ and swim out fast in between! Anne in foreground is happy about the still warm 19.5 degree water!
Gorgeous Sophie jumps for joy again!
The sun rises bang on 7am on the shortest day of the year.
I manage to get a shot of Guy being pummeled by a wave!
JK manages to brace himself and doesn’t get bowled over.
Lesbubbs doesn’t see my camera in time to pull a funny face. Look at those marvellous eyebrows!
At Shelly all the talk was about the huge, white shark Lyndall had seen. “it’s tail was this big!” She exclaims!
Look out for two Blog Tarts who manage to get on every photo! Tell us who they are in comments.
On the way back we are on the look out for Lyndall’s shark. There have been a few sightings of a Grey Nurse shark lately. I saw one 9 days ago on the only day I didn’t have a camera with me 🙁 Lesbubbs got a photo of the ‘white shark’ Lyndall described. First one is my Dusky and second photo Lesbubbs Grey Nurse
Good fun catching waves in to shore. Louise lost her goggles if anyone found…
This blog would not be complete without a section devoted to our beloved, mesmorising Giant Cuttlefish… They have been putting on quite a performance lately. Lots of swimmers saw them actually copulating on Sunday morning! Some of these swimmers, (like Louise Stacey mentioning no names), stayed around watching for around 15 minutes! Unfortunately I was back at the Surf Club (waiting for Jason to finish 1000 km) so missed out on the Cuttie Porn, but I have got the photo below from Kerry. Edwina, Gillian and Anne also posted great stuff on the Bold and Beautiful Swimmers Facebook page
I raced back to ‘Attracta Rock’ to see some action but they were just chasing each other so didn’t get to see the entwining of the tentacles. I have got some pretty good Cuttlefish shots recently though, including…
My lovely son, Charlie with Cuttie
Roz and Cuttie
Cuttie eating a Groper!!!
Most of you have probably seen my pic above but it hasn’t been on the blog before. Roz came across this Cuttlefish with a Blue Groper in it’s mouth and Sue and I joined her in looking at it too. It was an incredible sight. Why would a Cuttlefish choose a huge Groper to eat when there were all those Yellowtail swimming around? Anyway it was quite a sight which we were incredibly privileged to witness. Still a shame when you consider Cutties live to only 2 or 3 years and Groper can live until 80!

Brilliant Lainey! Love your blogs. Wasn’t the water beautiful today. I’m kind of glad I didn’t see the grey nurse.

It was just the grey nurse and me out there for the triple yesterday, though it probably wasn’t the scariest thing I saw out there!
The cuttlefish pics are amazing, especially the gorging of the groper.

I wanted to join in the Solstice tradition by looking at photographs of your naked bodies cavorting in CTB.
