20 June 2017 Winter Solstice Swim No1 – Such Fun :)

June 20, 201720

Winter festival of Solstice is a time of festivals and spending time with loved ones, dancing, singing and fires. Its astronomically the beginning of the lengthening of days and shortening of nights.

What better way to celebrate than with a “Bold” swim with your swimming friends.

Jacqui was enjoying the wonderful energy of the festival by dancing on the sand.

It was a pretty big surf today, so the bulk of the crew walked around to 1/2 way beach.

Although, I did see a bare bum making “his” way out through the surf at 6.20am.

It was dark and cold. About 100 adventurous B & B’ers arrived early at 6.20am to do our first Solstice swim for 2017. Air temp was 12 degrees and water temp was about 19.8 degrees. (But there was so much excitement that none of us even noticed the cold.)

Generally, there are no rules but, we usually get into the water in our cosies. Then, once submerged we shed them and hang them around our neck while we swim to Shelly Beach & Back. Most people keep their “bits” under the water….and then put their cosies back on before exiting the water.

(I noticed lots more people getting a bit braver this year & leaving their cosies behind on dry ground)

Its so much fun.

This is the crew getting out after the swim with their cosies back on.

The pack busy putting their cosies back on in the water. Easier said than done!

Karen, enjoying the post swim high.

It definitely got the “thumbs up” from the boys.

Smiles all around, Ian, Karen & Ted.

David at the end of his first “Bold” swim with Annalisa covering up after a morning of lots of skin showing.

Ah the hot water to finish…beautiful. Annalisa, Jenny (blogger) & Suzy.

Have a great Solstice everyone, Jenny

*Special thanks to Edwina and Jacqui for the water pics.

what’s the etiquette, on the nudey swim, when arriving head down in the water at Shelly / coming face to face with men’s bits?
I pondered this on my 7am non-nude swim as I arrived face-first with men standing waist deep… I was glad they all had their budgies on 😳

ATTENTION everybody. The lifesavers have just told me that surf is going to be up in our corner plus onto Shelly tomorrow so you may need to consider your swim. Thanks…..JK

A lovely nudie swim, even if somewhat truncated by thundering surf. I pity the poor passers-by at the Bower, they were agog. And Lesbubs I think the only response a lady can make faced with such a situation is to discreetly look away and smile coyly

Yes those poor people innocently walking their dogs at the bower got an eye ful.
