17/07/2016 – 17.7 on the 17th of the 7th

July 17, 20164

Today was like the majority of my high school sporting career – a lot of time spent on the sideline, but it wasn’t the coaches’ orders this time, it was Manflu or as my mother insists is the correct medical term, boyflu. This sideline view did however, give me a bit of time to get some other angles so I hope you enjoy.

The usual early bird suspects, only just clothed. ‘Coffee first’ is their mantra.

At 6:30am with such a cold and miserable outlook, it was commendable for anyone to get up for a swim, especially those aiming for WWW badge and it pays off – as these ladies said of these two studs and similar to why firefighters use Dalmatians, ‘we like them because they’re brave’.

The sun trying to squeeze through – no dice

a smooth arrival to the much colder Shelley

but no one seemed to mind the cold

except these guys who mastered the Shelley Tumble Turn

This man needed a bit of space for quiet reflection – a lot going on in the world right now – so I offered him a Penny for his thoughts.

His answer: “just wondering if I should get soy milk or skim milk in my coffee later.”

I asked for my change.

Also couldn’t decide between soy or skim.

Keeping warm the only way he knows how – get low.

These cool cats however were immune to the cold

soy all the way for them

Thanks to Rainer for taking the water shots!

Several at the point waiting for round 2

Rich only wears wetsuit shorts and a silicon cap because as he insists, ‘its most important to keep your head warm’.

I also thought her joke was hilarious

It turns out soy did win

My girlfriend used to say this was my best look – fully clothed and far away

Oh and these swimmers made me promise to put them in the blog

Have a great week everyone!

Gino

Very enjoyable coverage of the swim. Such a grey day. I enjoy the photos of the group of swimmers setting off.

Great blog Gino. I particularly like those Shelly shots.
And brilliant effort, bogging from the boyflu deathbed!

Thanks for accomodating 6 of us from Brisbane (the cool cats sans wetsuits in pic above). We’re all in training for English Channel swims in 3 weeks time, and was great to get some cold swimming in! Bold & Beautiful swimmers are a great group of people 😀
