14/07/2020 – Surprisingly Calm and Dry- Best Place to be!

July 14, 20206

Little Sarah was dying to get back in the water today in spite of a badly sprained ankle. She didn’t let a bit of rain, wind and a forecast of stormy seas put her off! It was a really lovely swim this morning and the rain stopped around 7am.  I know that bed was cosy but once again Cabbage Tree Bay pleasantly surprised us all!

Look at that bay! Beautiful and flat. There were loads of parking spaces right outside too 🙂

It was  a bit dark at 6.50am and very quiet. Vinny, JK and Jesse didn’t let the raging wind and rain put them off!

Drinky always swims whatever the weather. His smile is always huge and bright, laughter contagious and if you ask him about the swim he sincerely says ‘Beww…ttiful!’

JK points out the water temp. Its .8 degrees higher than yesterday’s 15.5!

At first there were only men at the Surf Club but then a few ladies appeared, even disabled (temporarily) ones! Helsy is swimming without a wetsuit but with a cast on her arm after a bad fracture. Sarah with her boot!

Early swimmers coming back socially distanced. Jo, Rusty, Capless Dave and musician Jim.

Roger had a rather strange experience this morning. As he ventured into the ocean in the dark he noticed his spectacles were in a flipper. He had to hastily slip them in his jocks (he’d forgotten his swimmers too) and so swam across the bay with his specs in his jocks! His spectacles had never been so close to his testicles! His mates have now got a new nickname for him which rhymes with Popeye 🙂 🙂

Duncan and Jon

Some of the A Team turned up (although a few are fair-weather swimmers 😉

Mel and Matt head in

Danny, Bones and Simon decided to head North for their early swim but did get hit by head on rain. Keep to Cabbage Tree Bay I say!

I head in with Michele and Martin. I got my cold Corona badge yesterday yay for 20 + swims over 7 weeks of Winter without a wettie!

There were plenty of Old Wives around the rocks (if not swimming 😉

A camouflaged Spotted Wobbegong on a rock.

Plenty of Gropers. (Crimson Morwong behind)

and Diamondfish

If you haven’t gone in yet today, get down there quickly before the surf picks up!

A few photos of yesterday when the sun shone and a lot of swimmers qualified for their Winter swim challenge! Larry, Ted, Sarah, Linda and Jeff have all been swimming regularly through Winter

Richard, Brian and Danny

So have Heather and Mary!

and of course Sheena, Sarah, Ann C and Sue

Here are Michele and Roger with yesterday’s temp recording.

It’s always lovely to meet new swimmers and find out what led them to do the swim. Here are Kate, Sarah and Kate. Sarah said she’d been wanting to do the swim for 25 years and finally after going through some real struggles late last year decided to bite the bullet and take the plunge. She hasn’t looked back and all three are now addicted to the swim and the moments of awe when they encounter the beautiful marine life. Here’s to many more years with this great community ladies!

Have a great day folks!

Lainey

We have received some complaints about the lack of social distancing and number of people congregating outside MSLC.

Government regulations still require us to keep 1.5m away from each other unless you live in same house,

We appreciate that you want to chat to your friends and socialise but we need your help to make sure we comply with these regulations before we are forced to introduce more onerous restrictions.

With that in mind we ask that you prespect your fellow swimmers and members of the public in the following manner:

  • Please start leaving bags and gear on the beach or step at below the ramp rather than outside MSLC
  • Keep at least 1.5m apart before, during and after all swims.
  • Arrive, complete your swim and leave.. If you are having coffee or socialising please do so away from the MSLC
  • Consider swimming at different times to keep the number of people congregating at MSLC to a minimum.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Thanks Lainey, yes couldn’t believe how calm and beautiful it was this morning. With my broken ankle, I can only do calm for now, so very fortunate. You’re such a star blogger, so lovely to see you as I came out!
Hels is a great inspiration swimming with her broken arm – we need to coordinate our swims!
Beautiful waves coming through now and some sunshine! xx
