76 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
The magic of winter hit today, what with the gorgeous clear skies and great visibility all the way across again 🙂 Four dusky whalers came out to play and the water’s warmed up. It really doesn’t get any better than that ! Ok, the company of a whale could have made it better.
First three beautiful photos are courtesy of James Goins. The third one captures Michael Christie just after he took the water temperature this morning 🙂
James your photos are very popular you
know… Anna Alvsdotter said this morning in a sad voice, oh we didn’t have James here this morning for our great photos, but she just missed you in the crowd, you and your trusty photography were present 🙂 Your photos will be missed over the next few days.
There’s quite a bit of interest in the Magnetic Island swim which is awesome.
Brendan Maher, Collie Kinsela, Kelly Johnson, Michael Christie and myself have all booked in for solo. Stephen has committed but is still contemplating on solo or team. John Masters and Christy McLean are keen on a team. Many more people are getting excited by the idea,
please comment below to share your enthusiasm and find team members or accommodation buddies.
Hope the drugs kick in soon Celso and hope to see you back at swimming again tomorrow, as we missed you today. Celso’s poor check reacted badly, as you can see from the photos below, to a stinger yesterday, that’s not common honest !!
For those of you who missed these in either last night’s newsletter or on the B&B Facebook page, below are a couple of links to my B&B focussed uni assignments… You can also find them on the videos page here. Thank you very much to everyone who took part in them !!

Poor Celso! Get better soon buddy, and come back swimming. We’ve had a good talk to the jellyfish culprit who promises never to do that to you again.

Where’s the photo of Celso’s poor “check”? Did it bounce?
I heard Iain wanted a nudie swim for Solstice. BUT for those watermelon fans amongst us…..
“The winter solstice occurs exactly when the axial tilt of a planet is farthest away from its star, depending on the polar hemisphere of reference. Earth’s maximum axial tilt to our Sun during a solstice is 23° 26′. More evidently from high latitudes, a hemisphere’s winter solstice occurs on the shortest day and longest night of the year, when the sun’s daily maximum position in the sky is the lowest.”
Regarding Rituals appropriate for the celebration…
Nirmally the slaughtering of cattle so they didn’t have to be fed during Winter.
Also beer and wine fermentation complete an dready to be drunk.
So beef, beer and wine????
I thought there was something abouut virgins too but didn;t think it would be relevant to B&B in any case!!

Oh, and just one last comment (I know, I really should get on with my job!)
Yes I thought our fab photographer James wasn’t there this morning, as he’s usually seen with a camera and a smile while everyone else is getting into the water. Jules, I repeat, there’s nothing wrong with your photos, now chin up.

Today’s blog is entitled ‘Winter Magic’
I kept true to this theme and performed a fantastic magic disappearing trick by vanishing out of the water at Shelly beach.
Ill swim both ways tomorrow Jules, I promise.

There was sadly nothing magic about that Timberlie, but… I am looking forward to the magic of you swimming both ways tomorrow morning 😉

Here’s a great site that I use to look up wind/swell conditions / directions forecasts. The first 2 graphs show you very succinctly direction and height/period of swell for the coming 7 days. I find it helps me plan my swims (generally avoid big easterly swells).
Thought others might find it useful.
