Over 81 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
The water is superb! Stunningly beautiful clear, warm conditions with about 7 sharks, tones of stingrays and loads of fish.
All of the children participating in the Cole Classic for Team Aiden completed the swim successfully and they raised a total of $58k. As you know some of the team joined us for our Australia Day swim where we managed to raise $500 in the Oncology Children’s Foundation buckets that morning, plus some additional donations online. Fantastic effort guys well done !
Chris Kiely has kindly offered to lead the 6km B&B Summer Badge swim this Saturday for anyone who is wishing to do it 🙂 Only 3 Saturdays left to qualify for your 6km summer badge. Don’t miss out the water is just perfect right now.
ALSO, ACROSS THE HEADS SWIM THIS SAT:
Set off from Quarantine beach at 10.30am just after high tide.
Lunch at Watsons Bay Pub.
Water taxi home departing from Watsons Bay at 2pm. 6 people per water taxi equals $27each.
Kelly Booked B&B water taxi 1: Kelly Johnson, Ben Hutt, Nicholas Dowson, Julie Isbill, Michael Christie & James Goins.
Roberto is going to book B&B water taxi 2: So far for Roberto Suares, Barry Feyder, Richard Agius, Neil Cowin – still two more spare spots, first in best dressed, please comment below.
After that if there are another 6 swimmers you could book B&B water taxi 3. Otherwise there is a ferry from Watsons Bay to Circular Quay, then change ferry to Manly.
Should be a great morning 🙂
Water Temperature 23.8 degrees.
Sunrise 6.24am.
Sunset 7.54pm.
Low Tide: 6.52am.
High Tide: 12.49pm.

You are too keen ! There would be time for both swims though.
It looks about 4k QS to CampCove, plus wherever the tide may take us.
About 3k to first stop LadyBay.
And another 1k from CampCove to Watsons Bay if you can’t be bothered walking to the pub.

You have time if you want to. 6k will take about two hours, so back at 9.30 say, so still plenty of time to get to QS by 10.30. I think the bus will take us down about 10 from memory, so maybe cutting it a bit fine???

Thanks again to Kelly for getting this water taxi idea on the move. I received a phone call this AM from Roberto regarding this subject, and since then I can see that the second taxi is filling up. Great idea, great communication! It was a good idea to give this topic it’s own blog heading. Good work, Jules 🙂
Jules, is there any way we can put our “recovery gear’ aboard the support boat going back across so we’ll have something to change into upon our arrival? I am sure if we keep our bags to a minimum size and weight it can be possible. Maybe we could ferry the gear out to the boat via a sea kayak or two?
BTW, a mate if mine is paddling across from Watson’s Bay beforehand to meet and escort our little peloton back across the heads. I encourage anyone who can escort paddle to do so.
The Sydney Ports Website reports no officially scheduled commercial vessel traffic due to pass through the heads during the time of our passage. However, this remains an area of high general vessel traffic which makes it still a bit of a gauntlet to run. The heightened visibility of plenty of escort craft would certainly work in our favour to enable other vessels to keep clear of us. See everyone at Q Station at 10 Saturday!

Yes we can put our clothes and money in bags on John Fallon’s boat at Quarantine Beach 🙂
I agree, the more escort craft; boats and paddlers the better 🙂

I am keen to swim from manly cove beach (harbour) over to quarantine first and meet the others there if anyone interested to extend the swim a little…would like to do around 6km that day as part of training…anyone interested? we could set off around 9.30am. i think doing the 6km to freshie first thing might finish me off!

I’ve booked a berth on Muz’s flotilla departing from Watsons Bay wharf to QS at 9am.
They are heading across to QS in convoy of a yacht, a tinnie and a paddler.
For southsiders – suggest contact Murray via his website, to see if he has any more spots on board for the 9am Watsons Bay to QS voyage.

Stuff To Watsons?
As far as I’m concerned all i’ll take is a credit card in between my butt cheeks and sit in the pub in my speedo’s and pink cap (frankly if that does not make the 2012 B&B calendar I will be shocked and deeply disappointed).
Actually on a more serious note my sister might drive over, can confirm closer to day, and she could take some stuff.
Finally Kelly in regard to a roadie I would like to make a correction. I will be taking several roadies and people in my water taxi best look forward to singing a sea shanty or two on the trip back.
Iain
ps. If you didn’t pick up on it I am even more excited to swim across the heads as round the heads.

I propose those of us that want to swim from Manly to quarantine meeting at the club at 9am to sort “stuff / roadie admin”. I’d be thrilled if someone could get our stuff into either the boat or a car. I don’t really fancy having a beer in my budgies at Watson’s bay! Any takers?

I am going to do the 7am swim as usual and then have a leisurely breakfast or do the the 6k. So I will be happy to swim to Quarantine or go by bus, but we can sort all that out in the morning. Sounds like gear can go across by boat or car.
