then around 9 o’clock two whales cavorted off the Shelly break audibly slapping their tails and then ……… a Shark warning and Manly Beach was cleared
Sounds of then …..

Well done Terry. Great rare close-up shot of Derek. He’s usually too shy to pose for a portrait.

Thanks Terry, great blog with lots of very good photos. There may be a blog slot for Fridays available given the devastating news of Roger resting his pencil that is should you fancy repeating such a great start as a blogger

That’s interesting – I did the Manly to Shelley swim on Mondays afternoon and had a close encounter with a shark. Just after passing the normal B & B starting point – I saw a wounded fish dart past me which prompted me to look over my shoulder to see the head of a shark facing me about 2 metres away.
After being initially shaken up I soon calmed down as I knew that harmless Port Jacksons were often sighted there (although I had no idea what PJs looked like).
I had a look at pictures of them today and it definitely wasn’t a PJ. I’m guessing it was a dusky whaler.
I’m not really sure how big it was as I only really got to see it’s head, but my guess would be maybe up to a metre? Should we be concerned? From what I can gather they are not normally aggressive to humans?
