03/05/2011 – Water Rat…

May 3, 201113

Over 31 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Huge seas today. It certainly makes for spectacular watching ! We have lost a few swimmers to their surfboards as they are making the most of these conditions whilst I think a few others maybe motivated to stay in bed…

All bar two people (Chris Kiely and ??) went to and from half way this morning. I think everyone took their lead from little Sarah… If Sarah wasn’t going out through the surf then no-one else was 🙂

It was certainly a rock ‘n roll swim into Shelly and back which made it quite fun.

Alison Christie saved a little marsupial mouse ! Check out the photo – too cute. Ali is taking it to the vet now 🙂

Water Temperature 22.0 degrees.
Sunrise 6.31am.
Sunset 5.13pm.
High Tide: 8.11am.
Low Tide: 1.57pm

The other person to swim from Manly was me. I regretted it when I managed to time my point rounding during a big set. I was happy to return via half way bay.

Ali has just reported in from the vets: The animal she rescued this morning was a rat – apparently if the tail is longer than the body it is a rat !

That was pretty hairy this morning! The good news is that the seas will drop a bit tomorrow and the swell will turn around to the south for the next ten days.
So, its good news for the swimmers, bad news for the surfers. There will still be big surfs in at Queenscliff and North Steyne however. Manly I suspect will be quite flat.

Am glad even the mouse made it! (or rat that is, nice one Ali)
Thought of the pink braves this morning when leaving for work at the usual crack of dawn – better you than me today!
Hope to see you all soon

Yay for smaller seas… Can’t wait to be able to swim the whole stretch again… Doing a big loop around Shelley and the Bower is getting old 🙂 specially with the shoddy visibility
