This question was all around the swim today as early swimmers, high on endorphins told us about the large group of Cow Nose Rays they’d seen out in the middle of the bay! Another awesome marine sighting on our morning swim. These rays were seen a couple of months ago. We thought they were migrating at first but they’ve been seen a few times since and more swimmers than ever may have seen them today!
Hundreds of swimmers swam today in beautiful conditions with 21.5 degree water, calm seas and warm air temp. I admit I edited the photo above to look brighter but it’s the 6.30am swimmers heading in with our lovely/marriage celebrant/supermum Sophie Coombes doing one of her trademark joy jumps in the foreground.
Andrew grabbed me to take a photo of his newbie friend swimming for the first time… We’ve been having record number of newbies lately with around 40-80 showing up each day. (Thank you to all the volunteers who meet and greet them.)
The water was beautiful and clear from the shore to the point today and most of you would have seen Stingarees gliding close to the sand or Sand Whiting in schools zipping around.
Only metres from the shore I saw this gorgeous Leatherjacket and Flathead too.
Then someone pointed out ‘my friend’ the Cormorant that was around on Sunday chasing a school of tiny fish. The pic above is today’s but I was lucky on Sunday with the glow of the sun and got better pics.
to get this one…
A proud Pommy Dad with his son and son in law swimming with us first time.
…and it was Sterling’s son’s birthday. Happy Birthday Angus! He’s still at Primary school so well done on doing the swim. Unfortunately some swimmers swam off before the ‘Let’s Go’ whilst we were still finishing singing! Please wait for the ‘Let’s Go’ guys at the point and Shelly. Trainee Manager Tim was most upset today as he should be…
Back at The Surf Club Di proposes a photo to send to B&B favourite, Lisa Boyle to show her the wall is back in the womens hands. The WOWS still have the wall!
For those that missed them, photos of the turtle rescue last week. Sharnie actually caught the turtle and took it to Manly Sealife to get fed up on oily fish and rehabilitated. It had barnacles all over it and will be getting much healthier ready for release in our bay soon.
Thank you to Attracta who picked up so much plastic and rubbish today. Remember ‘Take 3 for the sea’ guys.
Michael Keelan following the Rays today
One last one of the rays. There were 2 groups of around 50 in each!
Two cute last photos for today’s blog. Jim Hudson and his grandaughter Annabelle and Johnny the dog.
Have a great day folks
Lainey 🙂
