25/07/2012 – Were you here yesterday?

117 Bold and Beautiful Swimmers!

The most heard sentence this morning was – Were you here yesterday?

Below – Nick “who was here yesterday” comforting Michelle “who wasn’t here”

Sydney Morning Herald sent a photographer here to photograph us this morning!

The Whale experience was the talk of the morning! All sorts of stories floating around!

An absolutely beautiful morning!!!! It felt like summer!

Waves still big though – so a group (below) headed to half way!

The Herald photographer was actually here to photograph Anna – as part of a story on her and Bold and Beautiful…..but good timing because of the massive world wide head lining story with the whale yesterday! Here he is racing off to Shelly Beach…

Simply Stunning out there today!

We live in Paradise!

We all gathered at Shelly as usual, but did a bit of posing with Anna for the photographer…

Anna below looking beautiful!

The second photo had a weird halo around us! I am sure it’s just a drop of water but the way it surrounds everyone… like an angel! 🙂

The Jimbles not wanting to miss out on being centre of attention were back to get us today!! Funny they stayed away yesterday??!?  Jules got a DOOZY on her back!!

Back into half way – the rest came through the waves – it looked awesome!!

Who needs a cold shower when we have James ready with a bottle of hot water!!

Apres Swim – Elaine and myself checking out the Whale story in the local and national papers!

AND a few of us came back at 9.30 to be FILMED by Channel 10 (for the Whale story)… Back into our wet cozzies and running in and out of the waves!!!

MEDIA COVERAGE!!

And OVER 5000 hits on the B&B Blog so far since 11am yesterday !

One more small thing:

I can most definitely say this regarding anyone feeling concerned about our being there with the whale.

I too would probably be a bit worried if I wasn’t part of the Bold and Beautiful swim group and read about yesterday’s whale swim. BUT being part of this group for a few years now I see daily the level of respect we have for the wildlife and it is heartwarming to me as a great animal lover. Yesterday when I was in the water with the whale(s)…  It was overwhelmingly obvious, to me, the whale was hanging out with us NOT the other way around. We are like tiny snails compared this creature but even though it was incredibly powerful it was very gentle…and we all felt that.  We are all good swimmers and are used to being in the water with all sorts of great creatures!

We swim every day knowing what is in there with us and we love that we are so fortunate to see what we see DAILY…..even the jimbles! 🙂

So come and join us!!

The “boring” bit:

Water temp: I think about 17.8??

Air temp: 10 degrees

Waves: medium sized

Wind: WNW

You are so photo-genic Anna! Beautiful smiles, can’t wait to read the story on you/bold and beautiful. One small comment though, leaving Shelly today I received a rather forceful kick in my chest. Understanding this was a complete accident it still would have been nice for the guy who almost took my breathe away to see if I was ok. These things are sometimes unavoidable in large groups, but we do swim together and should look out for one another too 🙂

That was bad luck Alyson. My experience this morning was just the opposite. I swam out much too close to the rocks and got caught in a big set of dumpers. Anna swam back to see if I was OK and signalled to a LOVELY man who swam over just as I was giving up and turning round. He held my arm firmly, guiding me out of danger and staying with me until I had enough breath to swim back to the beach. WHO IS HE? Anna said he helped at least 2 more people who were in difficulty. When I began with B&B 2 years ago, I got caught in the rip swimming back in a giant swell. Michel swam back in and guided me across to safety. So there are some considerate and courageous people in our wonderful squad – let’s hope you come across one of those next time!

I’ve been punched, kicked you name it and usually the puncher/kicker is unaware they’ve done it. I know if they …Elaine! ;-)… did they would be most sorry 🙂
Just wanted to add to the last part I wrote on the blog. I think it’s Jules (and Michael’s) vast experience swimming with ALL SORTS of sea creatures that gives me the confidence to go in there – I don’t think I would without her being there. She was looking out for us AND the whale throughout yesterday’s experience. 🙂

What a pity for all you people who lucked out on whale day yesterday! Don’t be upset, I’m sure with that sort of luck You’ll be sure to catch ‘white pointer day’.

I had a helping hand (or voice really) back in through the waves today, a guy told me when to head back in and I got a nice lil one straight into the beach. Thank you !

Lesley, you are correct about the everyone asking “were you here yesterday?”. I had several such enquiries. I think a good idea would be to have an “I swam with the Whale” badge, so that people won’t have to ask the question, and can feel sorry for themselves without bothering those of us who were lucky.

Jane, my bet would be on Max H as I see he was swimming today? What do you think (see pic)? I know he was the one who rescued Amanda the time she got into trouble and brought her back to safety in a similar way…..
In addition to the WWW badge to be shared by all the “Winter With Whale” swimmers, perhaps we could have a Hero badge for your Mystery Man:-)
Alyson, I’ve had a similar painful experience …..let’s all take care when leaving Shelly…..

Jane , I’m pleased your rescuer came to your aid, I must also say I have had some great experiences with Elaine and Anna helping me through big waves 🙂 there is no way this guy could not have realized he kicked me though… It was quite a firm one 😉

    Sorry to hear that Alison.
Nasty sting Jules. I was hit by the same nasty assassin Jimble. They are black ones then they hit and change to pink before mingling into the crowd.
Sadly, I can not take credit for any rescues yet, none of you swim slow enough for me to catch you. Haha.
