Special Award for Dedication: Capless Dave accidentally woke up early today and rode halfway down to beach in the dark, when he realised it was actually 3.20 a.m. He went home; to return for 6.30 a.m. swim. Legend!
I am reblogging some lovely water shots (as all my stuff is on dry land). Love this, Brian!

NB: In case anyone tries to steal the goggles – they must first identify the swim cap’s colour in order to collect

I had an interesting conversation with Goeff this morning. Geoff is the father of Valerie who, with partner Laurence is from England and stayed with us over Christmas last year.
Geoff was a member of the surf club and moved over to the mother country 40 years ago,
I asked him down, he signed up and swam to Shelly today at the age of 82.
I know he’s older than Wilf and I’m wondering if he is now the oldest BandB swimmer?
I think he was even a little faster than Rainer in his swim.
He said that Valerie was in a coffee shop telling them about the swim they had at Christmas, swimming over sting rays and sharks and that she had 300 swimmers sing her happy birthday, a proposal on top of the Harbor Bridge in the afternoon to finish up a great day.
By the time she had finished, no one in the coffee shop was talking as they were all fixated on how amazing this swim in Manly Australia was.

Great blog Roger, you are the Master blogger.
Tattoo belongs to Snorks, cleverly transformed from a previous tattoo several years ago.
I’m with you Shelly, I want a whale badge!! And a shark mating badge. (Interesting art work for that one)

Shark mating? Question for Sharnie: don’t sharks lay eggs? Or with this question am I demonstrating new depths in ignorance (entirely possible) …

Port Jackson sharks lay eggs all right – but they still need to be fertilised first! But they don’t mate at this time of the year. Jules and I watched them mating one July, accompanied by a whole lot of sharkey spectators! (Maybe these are Jules’s pics? – they are on the OzMus website!)
Great footage at http://australianmuseum.net.au/search?keyword=Port+Jackson+shark&search=Search

Yes Snorks, but we had the conversation at the time. You said something about roses being more socially acceptable. 🙂 I thought it was very clever.

There was something surreal about Roger appearing out of the darkness to take our photo then break into an improv yoga teacher warm up then wander off again.

some keen B and B ers would jump into the water with beacon light and do an easy 6 or 8 km warm-up if they turned up a couple of hours early (not me though)
