Tuesday 17th: Karaoke, bluebottles, blood and gutsy Ten-Kay swims

17/02/201514

Fiona’s soiree art gallery opening ‘Still Lives’ two Saturdays ago … it was swish, musical, hot and arty!

Meet The Fukers.  (Mr Fifi far right in red)

Art Appreciators Arabella and Annie.  Lots of swimmers turned up (fully clothed); supporting the show, and enjoying Fi’s hospitality and talent

There were also four ‘Works in Progress’ … perhaps hinting at a future exhibition involving clouds and water

KARAOKE Last Tuesday

The Karaoke night was awesome!  Ian and Pauline were the door bouncers

Swing-out Sister: Lesley (30-sec video) kicked off the night with style – and later won the door prize for best turn-out and performances

Cher, Nicci and Marco

Ginger Spice

Two Pretties in Pink

A Pink Floyd roadie, Andy Warhol and Blondie

It was a beautiful seaside night upstairs, with balmy Mediterranean breeze … (80-sec video)

I was forty-five and he was fifty-six
We rode seahorses made of sticks
His speedos black; my bikini white
He would always win the fight

Bang bang, he swam me down
Bang bang, I hit the sand
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down

Elton’s Mum flew in from UK

“Where did that pink sheila go …?”

Johnny Rotten does an electricity/sound check – the dangerous way …

Remember the Fred Hollows night at Bluewater?  Well, Coastrek is just around the corner, and some of our swimmers are going to do it.  VOLUNTEERS are needed … it could be fun!  (A lot more comfortable than the actual trekking)  Please apply ASAP if you want to help coordinate this significant fundraising adventure!

Sharnie’s Shark rally the other Sunday

Lainey and SharkTayls

Upper thigh lobbying

And last weekend …

‘Cluster’ can refer to a grouping of bullet holes on a target.  These particular bluebottle marks have peppered the Flying Dutchman from arsehole to breakfast.  Demonstrating intent, quick thinking and accuracy, it stung his right hip; reached across torso to his left, inside elbow … then continued halfway up the inside wrist.  A nice, wide and inclusive cluster – which sent Ted its message.

Matching sunglasses.  He’s a Bomber and a Wingman: at the sunny benches last Saturday … with Eula (her uncle plays trumpet) and Ligia from Brazil

Today Tuesday 17th:

Bugger.  Local rabbiters have lost yet another ferret …

Manly pro lifesaver Johnno loads his boards for placement up the beach …

Gayle McKnight cleverly mapped a special route which bypasses bluebottles …

—-

‘It’s fun to swim at The Y – M – C – A …’

Skye, carebear Alex and Allison

One-Thousand Kilometre Pink Crown: Getting passed on very, very soon!  I’m sure Ros will be down the beach tomorrow morning … congratulations Ros and Dave!

Circle of knowledge and cameraderie …

Richard likes to suit-up at the cafe’s two seats.  He says the BolderB@st@rds were vibering last night about bluebottles.  He’s off to catch the 7.30 ferry and join this morning’s Sydney corporate throng

Gayle stops to say hello to all at the Sunny Benches …

THUNDERBALL: The Ten-Kilometre Swim in detail

Mr John Bond organises three 10-K swims each summer.  The second one was held last Saturday, and there were about 20 starters.  (Ten were new; all completed the task.)  It begins with the regular 7 a.m. mob; splits off at The Point upon return … re-groups under Queenscliff cliff … reaches to far point at Freshwater’s pool (below Harbord Diggers cliff) … back to Queenscliff … back to The Point at Manly.  At this stage, any Six Kilo swimmers are complete and exit, and the 10-K mob also leaves the water for first time since starting – to refresh and revive.  An eski has been stored inside Surf Club, and volunteers will set it up on a small table at foot of entry ramp.  Bananas, grapes, chocolate, Gatorade and water etc.  Vaseline and sun-block re-applied.  The group then swims to Shelly Beach again; returns to The Point; and does another return trip to Queenscliff.  And there you go – ten kilometres swum and done.  A bit over three hours of actual swimming but, as the group waits at each staging point in order to re-bunch, overall it’s around four hours.  Badges Ceremony is at the end of summer, once again in grounds of Far West Hospital across road.

Third and final SIX and TEN KILOMETRE SWIMS

Date:              Saturday 7th March

Time:            7 a.m.

Volunteers:   Speak to John Bond

Oh Gayle – you poor thing! How on earth did you get so close to the rocks? I swam back via Lord Howe Island to avoid them. And I got Bluebottled instead just to serve me right.
