Tuesday 15th of March – Deeper in the Ides

March 15, 20165

Morning all. Just to set the scene in the depths of the Ides of a rainy March, I’m coming to you today remotely having also not swum myself (as in town for a meeting) filling in for Jenny (who’s dad’s in hospital for an ocular upgrade) with Elaine who has been up since 2.45am (dropping Ted at the airport heading back to the land of the pushbike to see his Mum) on the camera. So if the pics a bit blurry you’ll understand. I’ll do my best to give you the feel for how it was and many thanks for the visual commentary from Elaine.

Following the southern swell yesterday, it settled back into a half metre east south east swell on an 8 second southerly pulse. The zephyr of a south westerly did nothing to our corner being so protected. Wth the southerly gradually returning the warm water we saw 22 degrees today up again and of course some rain overnight left some cool patches I’m told.

The low tide made for an easy start and we should see a small increase in swell but southerly over the next few days.

I started getting Elaines pictures around 5:30 this morning as she was on the spot for the 5:30 Hardy express kickoff, with a birthday girl this morning as Nicole celebrated.

Our Legend Dorset of 100K’s in 22 days fame came down to cheer on the team before he also hops a plane to Ohio for 6 weeks to deliver a pink cap and details of his PB to his new grandson Oscar.

Not long before Midges Muppets turned up for the 6.20 express and headed out into the darkness.

Then at last the 7am crew bought up the rearguard with a show of defiance. Unfortunately I think Elaine had already set the camera in 3D shark mode which only works underwater so a few of the surface shots appear blurry.

Not a big crew but hardy.

Elaine decided it was time to go find our Dusky mates in the haze.

Wasn’t long before they showed up a little agitated with all the rain and having to look their best for photo’s at this time of the morning.

Just off the pool I believe and finally a Blue Steel glance worthy of selection.

Seems everyone made it in one piece.

And despite the deluge we even saw 4 newbies today with Steve , Carlisle, Maddie and Rachel.

Well that’s all folks. Have a great day and see you in the wet tomorrow.

Cheers

Brian

And now for a few new announcements…

You did so well with my few blurry photos and early iPhone ones! Well done Brian, great commentary and expanation of conditions. The underwater one is actually Alanna from yesterday. A great, calm peaceful swim.
