Flicking through Facebook this morning, like most mornings, and its all about a mate on a big holiday in Greece, an awesome birthday party in Dubai and great achievement in a son’s life. And I’m grateful for their joy. I love staying connected but in all these big events there is a something strange, something missing. And thinking about this as I walk down to the swim, I meet Ian and Anne. We chat about the little cold patch of water off the point. And then I meet Linda and ‘Karl with a K’ two newbies from Palm Springs and we share a moment about pubs in Gerringong. And then after the swim at the benches Dave and Simon teach me about how you wouldn’t find spam on a charcuterie board.
And then I realise it’s the moments that matter. It’s all the little moments about the temperature and wetsuits and Annie’s coffee that make all the difference. The little things are the big things. That’s why Instagram and Facebook and the social media feel hollow – because it’s all about big perfect events, not little imperfect moments. Little imperfect moments where we express who we really are, our fears as well as our dreams. When we have the courage to tell the story of who we really are with our whole hearts. Where we can care a little and love a lot. The swim may be the same, but the little moments are always special. It’s those little moments that matter most.
Here are a few of the moments from this morning’s swim.
I’ll see you in a moment,
Pete Anthony

Winter swimming
The B&B Winter swimming season starts on 1st June. Although the water temperature may be a little colder than you might like, there are several advantages of swimming in winter, including flat seas, good visibility and no bluebottles. Perhaps the biggest advantage is that you can also qualify for a winter badge by swimming a minimum of 20 times between 1st June and 31st August. You must also swim in at least 7 different weeks. If you manage to do all of your qualifying swims without a wetsuit (or other thermal enhancing equipment), you will also qualify for the coveted WWW badge (Winter without wetsuit). Start now, and don’t forget to log your swims to qualify.
The Monthly Dinner – 13th August 2019 – Guest Speaker
The Next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 13th August at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest on the night will be B&B Swimmer, Duncan Young, who is the head of health and wellbeing for Lendlease. The title of Duncan’s talk will be ‘Does the ideas of living to 100 excite you or fill you with dread?’ He will speak about ‘living and working in the age of longevity’, what can we learn from super-agers about elongating our healthy lifespans? Don’t miss this very interesting presentation.
Please book early for this event as it is sure to be popular. The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential. To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book at www.boldandbeautifulmanly.com.au/bb-bluewater-monthly-dinner.html

Hey Peter
Great title for a blog or your next book. Alternatively, what about ‘conversations that matter” or “what women hate” or “what matters to women and men”. No to “Dominos”.

Good one Pete. You are so right about celebrating the imperfect moments. It is from those that can come the best memories and experiences. After three months on the road, they are the times that stand out and it wouldn’t have been the adventure it has been without them.

Imperfect moments, perfect blog. Very true about the spam, too. There’s a reason it always ends up in a separate box.
