Thursday August 1: Compassion rising up

01/08/20194

The madness waking up to the coldness. And the rain coming and going like the 144. The sun low in the sky, and the pines restless. I see Ian first, then Anne. And I know why its not madness but warmness that entices me to swim. And like the red sun it dawns on me. Compassion. Buddha said it best when he described compassion rising from your heart to your mind like a crown. It rises when you are alert and relaxed, before the monkeys awaken and jump around frantically.  When you are not awake nor asleep and you can sense a space between you and your thoughts. In that space is peace and an awareness of the compassion rising up. Just like we are in the morning. Feeling the compassion rise up for ourselves and for each other. And we experience the joy of the secret of life as explained by the Dalai Lama ‘to be happy and useful.’ Then we dive into an ocean of peace. It’s so sweet we are addicted and repeat. Some of our repeat offenders…

I’ll see you in the water.

nice photos Pete. Someone should tell Brian McC that there is more appropriate footwear in winter (I was skiing in Perisher last Saturday, and in the queue for the tube ticket counter, I saw a young bloke, looking more like a hippie from the seventies), in full ski gear, including helmet, and with thongs on his feet – that reminds me of Brian)
