Thursday 4 January 2018: It doesn’t get much better than this

January 4, 201817

Today I was greeted by calm seas, dark clouds with a touch of light coming through, and a beautiful temperature of 22 degrees.

Sally convinced her cousins Michael and Disa from Armadale to come and swim, hope they saw some of the marine life

Plenty of people are turning up mid week in groups and families and singles, the numbers are similar to a good weekend, today’s total attendance of early and regular swimmers: 496 including 18 newbies.

I met this man earlier in the week, think it’s geoff, sorry if it’s not, I’m very forgetful. He drives from Eastern Creek area early on weekends, to run 14km then join the 6.30am swimmers and has been coming for 5 years. That’s extroadinary in my books, and he chose to exit the water at halfway the same day I did. Glad the stronger swimmers feel the same way I do about rough surf.

Everything Italian is brilliant!

I swam to the Bower Break with Melise and Rosemary and had a ball looking at the marine life while they swam further around the cliffs.

Obligatory marine life photos:

A friendly paddler on their way back to Manly

Lisa Boyle is in America on holidays, she went for a swim at Delmar Beach and attended the Penguin Plunge on New Years Day. More of a playful dip and frolick but she made the papers with her daughter Georgia

Friendly chatter post swim: Saint Shaun surrounded by his followers 🙂

As the Summer long distance swimming season approaches, management thought that it would be a good time to clarify what it takes to earn a badge. Three long distance swims are on offer:

· The 6 km swims are held every summer Saturday morning generally starting with the 7 am swim. The first 6 km swim will be on Saturday 2nd December.

· There is a 10 km swim once a month over summer also generally starting with the 7 am swim. Dates for these will be announced in the blog. The first will be on December 16th.

· If these swims are too long for you, you can try a Triple Manly to Shelly swim any day during Summer (distance 3.5 km) from 6.30 or 7 am.

You will earn a badge if you complete these swims and log them in iLog. The system will only record authorised 6K or 10K swims that are logged on the appropriate days. Badges will be presented at the Summer Badge Ceremony in March. If you are unsure of the routes and protocols for these swims, please ask at the desk before you swim. When swimming these longer distances, we request that, for safety reasons, you stay with the group. We also request that you do not swim in dangerous conditions. The quest for a little cloth badge is not worth putting your life at risk.

Enjoy your swimming.
