Thursday 4 April: Its the present that keeps giving

04/04/20193

After my first swim in October 2013 I met a bunch of swimmers and  I thought “This is a swim group who happen to get on really well.” And it took a while to realise it’s a group of people who get on really well that happen to swim. Dare I say there is a lot of love shared in a subtle yet powerful way. Let’s call it care. So the question is ‘How does it work?’

Well Positive Psychology tells us that caring relationships are the number one marker for happiness. The more and deeper your relationships are the better you feel. So how do you do it? You know YouTube is full of advice on this, it seems very coach has a story just like every dog has a tail. And yet it comes down to every moment you spend with someone you care about. You simply make yourself present with them, then give then the gift of your presence. Care on purpose. Not just for them, do it for you. This usually happens subconsciously but you can make it deliberate – a choice. Eckhart Tolle called it the Power of Now. And it goes from you to others around you to a spiritual space. In Tolle’s words:

“It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up.”

For me it’s the space between me and my thoughts – where the real peace is – and the space I can offer to others without judgement or conclusions. I just get present until me and my stuff disappears, and I give that presence away. Just my presence and my care & that by itself is curative. For me and them.

It’s the present that keeps giving.

See if you can spot any care from this morning’s swim…

Babewatch Event

Babewatch are holding their annual 6 hr swim next Saturday 6th April and are asking us to get behind their fundraising efforts for 180, a Northern Beaches group set up by young people to address the growing issue of anxiety and depression within our youth.
They will be starting with us at 7 am and having a team of swimmers in the water until 1 pm.

They will also be running a cake stall (and would appreciate donations of goodies to sell by all you wonderful bakers) and if you’d like to relax and de-stress – stop by the stand and get a massage from one of the qualified physiotherapists who are part of Babewatch.

For more information, speak to Murray Colderick or Ali Smith or Mikaila Beaver.
Let’s get behind this wonderful bunch of young people and help them achieve their goal of raising $4,000!
