Thursday, 3 March 2016 What a dusky start to the morning

March 3, 20168

What a beautiful morning to be out and about in Manly.  The morning was a little cloudy but still just divine.  Sorry I didn’t get there early enough to catch the 6.30 drinky express.  This swim is gaining in popularity with many doing the 6.30 swim with Andrew and the team and then backing up with the 7 o’clock regular swim.

The Booty Camp is also very popular, this morning it was a touch of yoga.

But what a wonderful site it is to see the migration to the water around 7am for our regular swim to Shelley Beach and back.  Ian advised that there was a strong rip so if you weren’t a strong swimmer to exit at half way but if you wanted to swim back to Manly to make sure you went wide.

Another picturesque shot of us entering the water.

Sheena was so excited when she got to Shelly Beach – she had seen 11 dusky whalers on her swim over, just near the rocks close to the Bower.  The population of dusky whalers has definitely increased and they seem to be a bit more relaxed around us swimmers now, not darting off as soon as they see us.  This morning the duskies were quite fearless with many reports of swimming right under swimmers.  Here is Sheena with her partner Richard before their swim this morning.

We picked up a few more swimmers from Half Way and then this cheery couple from Shelly Beach – friends of Elaine’s.

Mornings at Shelly Beach is the best time to catch up with everyone and find out what sealife is where – we heard of 11 duskies, a wobbygong, yellowtails, and a an unknown but puffed up and spotty – may have been a catfish.

And before we know it its back to Manly we go.

I tried to get a picture of the duskies, but I’m not experience like Lani Loo and they had gone by the time I got myself sorted.  Did get this fish shot though and a couple of shots of our mermaids looking at fish.

And a photobomber – not quite sure where the bubbles are coming from Ted.

But it was a special day with all those duskies.

This weekend Sean is leading a 10km swim – it is the last chance to qualify for your 10km badge and will go ahead regardless of conditions, bluebottles or weather.  Just check with Sean before you leave what the approved route is.

Finally some notes from management.

Staying safe

What a lovely blog Deanna. I couldn’t swim early this morning but feel I was there because of your description and photos. Love the shot of the swimmers entering and the underwater one of Ted!
