Thursday 22 November 2018: The sum of the parts is greater than the whole

22/11/20181

Dorset got me thinking this morning – each summer/winter we strive for badges, but the badge is just one part of the whole Bold and Beautiful story.

While the badge is the individual reward for our hard work – braving the chilly winter mornings or swimming longer in summer, the greater reward is the friendships and bonds the we form with like-minded individuals. We have an amazing community that supports one another in sickness and health. This can be demonstrated by the number of people who have taken time to visit Errol in hospital – we are like an army with many skills we can rely on.

Henrietta and Anne have been swimming with the group for a number of years and proudly show their numerous badges.

Dorset says the 2000km is his favourite.

He has his favourite vest adorned with number badges as well.

Nicky and Lainey are close friends and often swim together when time permits.

Our friendships include an early morning chat where we catch up on all the latest happenings.

One thing is clear, we all share a love of swiming and the ocean.  The A-team are super-competitive, leaving Manly after the back, racing to Shelly and then are often the first group back.

This morning we had an amazing 18 newbies – mostly thanks to the team at Speedo who are having a three-day conference for the Australia/New Zealand area.  Today their conference was located at Manly, and impressed by our commitment to swim every day, they joined us for the swim.

Post swim some even had the war wounds of swimming too close to the rocks!!!  Thanks for joining us guys and please come back and swim with us again soon.

As part of the bigger group we find people around our own speed and swim together like Gemma, Michael and Mary.

Lainey is a relief teacher at Manly West school and today she had two of her students join us for a swim.

We even share interests with our family like Ros Beaver and her daughter Mikaila (pictured with Michael Stacey).  Mikaila is part of the Babe Watch crew who support ocean swimming as a means of helping mental health.

All in all another top notch day in the water.  Although the surf is still a little messy and visibility not as clear, it doesn’t matter when you are in the our enjoying the ocean.

Have a great day peeps.
