Thursday, 18 August 2016 – Silver for Lisa but we struck gold

August 18, 20164

While we were all celebrating our own Lisa Darmanin’s silver medal at the Olympics yesterday in the Nacra class, today the swimmers who took on the Bold and Beautiful swim from Manly to Shelly struck gold – a spectacular sunrise, nice clear, calm, warm water, cuttlefish and even some Dusky Whalers.

The sunrise was just spectacular as Andrew’s 6.30 Drinkee’s Express took off.

Meanwhile on the beach the Booty guys and gals had their yoga mats out and were finding their zen.

Another one of the amazing sunrise.

Jo was the serial photo bomber today.  It was Mike’s 20th swim today, while Maria’s second after three months in the US bonding with her new granddaughter.

Henrietta has lost her voice but still got out to swim and enjoy the morning.  Hope you are much better soon.

On a sad note one of our early swimmers found this just near the point – a bit disappointing that some fishers don’t share the same respect for our protected waterway as we do.  We love having all the marine life, so if you see fishers in the protected area please make sure you report them.

Pete reckons he’s one the smart ones with a wetsuit – being a www I beg to differ mate!!!

Here’s Jo again with Maria and Greg, who has just returned from holidays.  Unfortunately his better half Sue broke her wrist so it will be a little while before she is back swimming again.  We wish her a speedy recovery.

Swimmers coming into Shelly.

And here’s Jo again with Lisa, John, Mike and Maria.

Dad and Dave were also out this morning.

While John Kelly rounded up the troops to let Alex do the “Let’s Go”

Another spectacular morning with reports of two cuttlefish and the blue gropher near the rocks and six dusky’s at the point as well as lots of other activity.  We really are blessed to live near one of the best spots in the world.

Now from management.

A piece of lost property – if this sweatshirt is yours do let us know, it was left near the rocks at half way I think.

Pierre found a pair of blue flippers last night outside of normal B&B hours.  If they belong to one of our swimmers and you can describe them and where they were left Pierre would love to return them to their rightful owner.  Contact him at ohlalamanly@gmail.com

 A note from Jim Stackpool.

“Big thank you to all the Bold & Beautiful crew who helped us raise over $3000 at last Saturday night’s Fund Raiser for local Manly team at Streetwork. Your support and funds for local lost kids and youth goes far further than you may realise. In fact, two of the serving staff at last Saturday night’s function were themselves ‘off the street’ and donated all their own tips and spare change when they saw everyone’s support for a real but too often hidden cause that is indiscriminate who it affects. Like so many good causes, Streetwork totally rely upon the generosity of the locals – big, big thanks for that support. Special mention must be made of the efforts of our Shaun Denton – who by himself raised $1200 from his local business forum for this event. These firms are all local – Bank of Queensland, Manly Locksmiths, Absolute Health Solutions, Stone Real Estate, Fanshore Creative Consulting, Cashflow Copywriting, Well Connected Electrical, Medcalf Grant Lawyers, Peer Wealth Accountants, Southern Cross Coaching & Development, Woodhouse Danks Architects and Shaun’s The Right Builder – special thanks to stockbrokers Shaw and Partners who doubled up their total contribution.

Also special mention of the front stage effort by our own Roger “Brown Eye Girl” Harvey – he will now be mistaken for “Van the Man”.

Roger we expect a special rendition next time you are near the club.

Stats: (Our trusty statistician Ian is still away (lost in Bora Bora we hear, so it’s all a guess!)

Temp : 18.4
Swimmers: over 120
Newbies: not sure

A $5 donation will be payable to the RFW at the gate for hosting this event, and …. RFW will provide a FREE breakfast (sausage sandwich and a coffee/tea). Bookings are essential to ensure there is enough food.  Book here for Badge Breakfast

All 2016 winter badge qualifiers will be presented with their well earned badge(s), so whether you are getting one personally or you want to enjoy the celebrations of your fellow swimmers, a great morning is guaranteed so come along, soak up the atmosphere and get inspired for your upcoming summer badge challenges…

B&B Merchandise

Now you have your badges, take this one off opportunity on the day of the badge ceremony to try on and purchase your hoodie or other B&B items. RFW will have a range of our own gear for sale on the day – cash or credit card accepted.

I definitely agree Deanna we have been blessed with the conditions for our swim. A 10/10 day.
You captured the day well including those great pics of the sunrise. Thanks for doing the blog today.

On land if you are cold you put on a jacket …. not smart, just common sense. In cold water, wear a wetsuit. It’s not rocket science. Anyway, I do enjoy how a bunch of people “bravely” not wearing wetsuits think they are superior (some, not all). I think there must be a thesis in it …. any students?
