Thursday 17 January Where are you reading this from?

17/01/201998

So I had a winge to Carol & Edwina last week about the blog. ‘No one reads it’ I said ‘My best effort was 7 likes.’ Edwina cheered me up by saying ‘There are people reading from all over the world.’ And Carol agreed and recommended ‘Why not ask people in your next blog where they are reading it from? And give a prize to the most distant reader.’ I’m thinking am Ï’m Gonna Be (500 miles) by the Proclaimers or am I 24 hours from Tulsa?

So in the interests of reader engagement lets answer the question. How far away are you reading this from? Let’s go by county and postcode. Now I know we’ll get lots of Australia 2095 but lets find out where you readers are. In the name of research and science and global community can you simply put your country and postal code in the comments below. Now if you are reading this locally but have read the blog internationally make a note of that too. Let’s see how far this blog goes…
There were 139 swimmers today looking for that distant reader….

The boys…

The WOW girls…

Anne recommending we Shelly from clockwise counter swim

And one of our newbies Corinne..

Now put your name and the place furthest from Manly where you have read the blog or are now reading the blog.

See you in the water.

Pete Anthony

SUMMER SWIMS

10km swim [Date TBC]. 7am. Bring own food/water.

As the Summer long distance swimming season approaches, it seems appropriate to explain what it takes to earn a Summer badge. Three long distance swims are on offer:

  • The 6 km swims are held every summer Saturday morning at 7am until Feb.
  • There is a 10 km swim once a month over summer. Next one inFeb.
  • If these swims are too long for you, you can try a Triple Manly to Shelly swim any day during Summer (distance 3.5 km) from 6.30or 7 am.

‘Try a Triple’.  Do the Manly to Shelly return swim 3 times non-stop and earn a triple badge.

Please note, Badges will be awarded to swimmers completing any and/or all of the 3 swims at the times and dates stated above and throughout the Summer months.

You will earn a badge if you complete these swims and log them in iLog. The system will only record authorised 6K or 10K swims that are logged on the appropriate days. Badges will be presented at the Summer Badge Ceremony in March. If you are unsure of the routes and protocols for these swims, please ask at the desk before you swim. When swimming these longer distances, we request that, for safety reasons, you stay with the group. We also request that you do not swim in dangerous conditions. The quest for a little cloth badge is not worth putting your life at risk. Enjoy your swimming.

If you are interested in supporting/assisting this initiative by way of signing up to be a CV (Citizen Volunteer) please read on.

The SIMS (Sydney Institute of Marine Science) Project Team expect to start the preparation work in late January and in February.

Assistance could take the form of on-land prepping as well as snorkelling assistance helping the netting get secured etc. SIMS/U.NSW do however have strict compliance paperwork to be prepared/signed off on before commencing such assistance.

If you are interested in becoming a CV to help the marine regeneration initiative could you please send your full name, mobile number and email to Dorset Sutton (Project Sponsor) at suttondorset@gmail.com.

Dorset will forward you by email the paperwork required to be completed. At this stage actual prep/dive dates are not know, but we are interested in seeing how many potential CV’s we’ll have.

Forms will also be available at B&B Board each morning at our swim.  See Dorset at the swim.

Hi Pete, I try and read it as often as I can but do go for periods of time where I don’t seem to get a chance. I mostly read it from computer at home. Sadly not a 2095 local but not too far away at 2063! Keep up the great work!

Basically it’s on my daily reading list no matter where I am including Parramatta. Shout out to all bloggers. Just keep feeling the invisible love!

So folks we have 3 finalists…and like the Academy Awards I’m asking Arthur Andersen (my mate not the auditors) to check the voting and keep the winner in a sealed envelope.
Contest will close at dusk and the winner and prize will be announced. I’ll also announce the runner up in case the winner is dethroned due to death or scandal…

Top idea, Pete. Right now I’m in 2095 but I read the blog whenever I go back to the UK – either staying with my family at the far southwestern tip of Wales, or my partner’s family just half an hour from Land’s End, which is so remote it’s famous for its interbreeding!! That’s got to be worth a place in the final, surely??

Read the blog almost daily but guilty of not hitting the like button, sorry, I really do love all the effort so many of you put in. Currently reading from Belrose, but have read it from all over NSW (Yetman, Bourke, Lightning Ridge, Broken Hill, Hay, Deniliquin, Griffith, Wagga, Tumut…and lots of little towns in between)! Australia wide I’ve read it from Perth, the Gold Coast, Mildura and Melbourne. Overseas, the hardest to reach place….my parents live in rural Arkansas, and when their internet works, I do read it from there! For what it’s worth, I think it’s actually harder to get to several NSW towns than New York!

    Hi Guys
Love the blog and I read almost every day. I live in Sacramento California. US 95746. I used to fly for United Air Lines so I can say I’ve read it everywhere from most places in Europe to most places in Asia, and of course lots of the US at various times. One of my best moments was getting in the blog with my wife last year around this time. We were big swimmers as kids and my wife hadn’t done much swimming since then, but 1 morning with B and B really got her back into swimming again. it’s been great for both of us. We’ve both just retired and hoping to get back to Manly for a much longer vacation and a lot of swimming soon.
