It was a bumpy swim today with a little weed still milling around. But we jumped in anyway. Our swimming community is a guest house, where we not only welcome anyone but we also welcome any conditions, its always a great day for a swim. It reminds us of The Guest House, one of Rumi’s great poems. Swimmers know the poems of Rumi, a Persian poet and Sufi master born 800 years ago in about 1200. Here’s The Guest House:
The Guest House
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture, still,
treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
We were a welcoming group today, and I had lots of photos of the crew welcoming whatever turned up. Now I’ve found my SD Card is corrupted so I need to welcome the fact this will be my first photo free blog.
Thanks for making me feel welcome each morning.
Pete Anthony

Corruption storms the beach front!
I love today’s photos … I can imagine exactly how good they are. You always plan ahead, and marry each pic to your theme.
Good work, Dr Anthony 🙂

that’s 2 days in a row now without photos. And we made so much efforts to look cool in your shots today (if that’s still possible at our age). Pity, but nonetheless good try Pete. And the poem compensates for the photos. Shows good taste and research skills.

Photos are overrated anyway. People get way too obsessed with photos of themselves.

I like Rumi too and enjoyed the poem. Check out “On Fasting”… Good Blog… we don’t need pictures …we can have mind pictures instead. Thank you Pete.
There’s a hidden sweetness in the stomach’s emptiness
We are lutes. No more, no less.
If the soundbox is full, there is no room for music…..etc.
Check it out on the net.
Thanks for the memory. I have a beautiful illustrated limited edition book which was my grandmother”s. Must check it out again…
