Thursday, 15 September 2016: Rocking, rolling run to Shelly and a birthday

September 15, 20168

It was a glorious morning this morning on Manly Beach with the sun out, the tide up and the surfers out having a great time.

The yogis were doing their thing while everyone else contemplated the best entry point given the waves and surfers close to our usual swimming route.

Reports from the early swimmers were that it was fine, a bit choppy and not too much to see but quite good. Michelle and Co couldn’t wait to get out there and into the waves.

For the last couple of days we have been joined at our swim by the 2014 New Zealander of the Year Dr Lance O’Sullivan who is holidaying in the area.  A quick bit of research via Wikipedia (so it must be true) reports “O’Sullivan was declared New Zealander of the Year 2014 for his work on rural health projects, and Cameron Bennett, chief judge of the awards, said “Lance O’Sullivan’s passion, drive and unwavering commitment to eradicating poverty related illnesses are exactly the kind of qualities we look for.” O’Sullivan was named supreme Maori of the Year in 2013, as well as winning in the Health category, and has been awarded a Sir Peter Blake Trust leadership award, and a public health champion award. In 2014, he was named the second most trusted New Zealander by Readers Digest. In 2015 he was named Communicator of the Year.

Nice to have you with us Lance, sorry we didn’t catch up for a photo.

It was Maria’s birthday today.  After the swim at Bluewater her family who are visiting from America came and joined Maria for breakfast including her gorgeous new granddaughter Addison.

Melissa and Brian have both been sick so nice to have them both back swimming with us during the the week.

While a group left from the beach, a few ventured around to half way, although it was still quite choppy around there.

Jim enjoyed a laugh at Shelly Beach.

While Rainer, David and Louise are always up for a photo.

Maria got to do the let’s go before everyone headed back through the chop to Manly

I guess we can’t always have it glass like and crystal clear conditions.

Have a great day everyone.

Love your work! someone at work said that there were 2x 3m sharks at Shelly. Was that Shelly at Manly or another Shelly?
