As I swim across the bay I would imagine most BnBers are keeping a sharp look out for rays, sharks, cuttlefish, turtles and loads of other residents of the sea, but I am scouting for mermaids. So, it begs the question…Do mermaids really exist? "Mermaids – those half-human, half-fish sirens of the sea — are legendary sea creatures chronicled in maritime cultures since time immemorial. The ancient Greek epic poet Homer wrote of them in The Odyssey. In the ancient Far East, mermaids were the wives of powerful sea-dragons, and served as trusted messengers between their spouses and the emperors on land." Well, if this depiction from the US National Ocean Service website isn't enough to convince you… then i believe the following photographic evidence will!!

Hmmm…The Manly Mermaids certainly have style and grace but that's wrong kind of mermaid for today's blog!

Now this is more like it…

Lainey and Helen are such popular mermaids they are to be in a commercial very soon.

And what about sightings under water I hear you say??? Seeing that the water was crystal clear this morning the ocean fairies were plentiful and so were the port Jackson’s, (There were 4 having a “pj” party) a turtle and 1000’s of fishies!

Here's the proof…

And if you don't believe mermaids are real, I can't imagine what your opinion is on Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and unicorns! … besides, our BnB mermaids are easy to identify. Always smiling and gracious and as our group proudly declares, BEAUTIFUL!!

Have a magical day

And now a word from our sponsors..

Winter Badge Collection 2020

Congratulations to all those who completed their Covid-19 winter swimming challenge. As almost 600 swimmers qualified, the badge distribution this year will be different in order to maintain a Covid-safe environment for our volunteers. Unfortunately, only virtual handshakes and hugs from Ian, John, Anne and Pauline and contact-less distribution.

There is only one way you can obtain your badge(s)

  1. Inside a self-addressed, stamped envelope place cash for your badge/s – $10 per badge for the Covid Badge (if you completed 20 swims over winter) and an extra $10 for the Ice Cold Corona Badge if you did those swims without a wetsuit. Family members/friends sharing an envelope must clearly name each swimmer and badge achieved. Please check postage rates and size of envelope required for multiple badges.
  1. Post this envelope in another envelope to Ian Forster, 6 Bligh St, Northbridge. 2063.

Badges will be posted as soon as they arrive. If you have any other badges that you are missing and wish to purchase, please include cash for those as well.
