What an eclectic morning we had down at the Bold and Beautiful corner of Manly. It involved an amazing cake stall, the swim and a goat. Here is Lainey who is the brainchild of the cake stall. She had heard that our gym was supporting the Sanfilippo Children’s foundation as we were participating in the SF Super Series and she thought it would be great for the Bold and Beautiful Swim Squad to help out by doing one of their famous cake stalls. Here are Lainey and I all set up for the cake stall in support of the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation.
The 6am crew entering the lukewarm 19.6 degree water under a blanket of clouds
250 regular Bold and Beautiful swimmers entered the water at 7am with the rain threatening but that did not deter these avid swimmers
Lainey didn’t swim today to selflessly help me manage and promote the cake stall like a legend. Thank you to everyone who brought in cakes and slices. Also, many thanks to those who donated today and also online towards the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation and bought these sweet treats.
Sanfilippo Syndrome is a rare disease which affects children. The best way I have heard it described is that it is dementia for children. Children deteriorate quite rapidly and do not reach adulthood. But there is HOPE with research being conducted. All money raised goes towards research for a cure and how to prolong the lives of children suffering with Sanfilippo Syndrome.
Here is the beautiful Lainey with my second son Logan manning the cake stall
Here I am with the wonderfully hilarious and artistic Roger Harvey who donated very generously to the cause. We wanted a group selfie. These two have got to be two of my favourite people down here at the Bold and Beautiful swim squad. They always put a smile on my dial.
The gorgeous MERMAIDS of the Bold and Beautiful who donated baked goods and Mermaid Kelly who donated chocolate bars for the cake stall because she has just come out of the Boat Shed after a massive night out, to help us man the stall (what a gal).
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for your generosity. There are too many people to mention by name. But your time, donations and efforts have not gone unnoticed. WE RAISED $650 wow!!!!!!
This is how the cake stall came to be. Most of you have seen this article in the Manly Daily. It is about ENDURE 24 which is part of the Sanfilippo Super Series Fundraising campaign. Our gym CrossFit Manly Vale hosted ENDURE 24 which was a 24 hour fundraiser we did this last weekend from the 6th October at 5pm to the 7th October 5pm. Throughout the weekend we were able to fundraise over $13,000 for the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation. Lainey saw this as a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness and money in the Bold and Beautiful Squad. She was right. Thank you to everyone who wanted to have a chat and learn how you can help. This is the website if you want to learn more https://www.sanfilippo.org.au/
It was a really successful event. Our team completed over 24 CrossFit workouts within the 24 hour period.
Here we are having a much needed break. You may also recognise Paige on the left who has been swimming with the BnB for a few years now and Emma who is on the right who used to be part of the Manly Beach running club. They are both wonderful members of our gym CrossFit Manly Vale who trained along side me for the 24 Hours.
One of the workouts began at 1am and we were to travel by foot from our gym in Brookvale to North Curl Curl Beach, South Curl Curl Beach, Freshwater Beach, Queenscliff Beach, Manly Beach and Shelly Beach then return back to our gym in Brookvale. But at each beach we completed a workout. We arrived back to our gym before 6am Saturday morning.
This photo below was taken at 2am at South Curl Curl Beach, I think we were delirious at this stage.
Fundraising and research has not gone unnoticed for the Sanfilippo Children’s Foundation on the 5 October they won the Advocacy Award from Research Australia. The Donnell family from Freshwater started the non profit organisation because they have two children, Isla and Jude with Sanfilippo Syndrome. Here they are in this weeks paper. My husband Vira and I have been able to get to know the Donnell family over the past weekend where they came into our gym and participated with us doing ENDURE 24 and Isla and Jude were able to play around the gym.
Here is Mel Donnell (Centre) and her sister Ingrid Maack (second from the right) who accepted the award at the Research Australia Awards in Melbourne on the 5 October. They are so hands on in bringing the right funding to different areas of the globe where medical doctors are at the forefront of research in regards to Sanfilippo Syndrome. What absolutely amazing humans.
Truly there is never a dull moment at the Bold and Beautiful Squad’s corner of the globe in Manly.
Honey the GOAT yes a goat came to visit us at the Bold and Beautiful Swim Squad this morning. What a little superstar!!

Nat

Expression of Interest!
Royal Far West would love to hear from any Bold & Beautiful members who are keen to help run a surf/sail/kayak or paddleboard program for our seniors during the summer months. These are children from the country who are at RFW for the week to receive medical help, speech pathology, OT, and more. We have foster kids, kids who come with their families or from remote areas where there is simply no assistance available. A working with children check and surf lifesaving qualification required. To register your interest or enquire please call Linda Scott on 86226838 or email lindas@royalfarwest.org.au. Other non water based volunteer opportunities are also available.
