With first light at 6:30, sunrise at 6:58, a calm sea and a low tide it was a long quiet stroll to the shoreline and another long walk almost to the point for the few 6:30 starters. How different from the bright summer sunrise, but spectacular nonetheless. The winter solstice is nearly upon us and before we know it we’ll be back to the light-filled days, but now is the time to savour the mid-winter stillness, the longer nights and the adventure of setting out for our swims in near darkness.
Early light and the 6:30s are heading off

This is a birthday girl. Cecilia, you’re breaking our hearts, you’re shaking our confidence daily (Ear worm? You’re welcome). It was also Roz Beaver’s birthday but she laid low. Happy birthday Roz.

The long walk to the water. The colourful cap brings back memories of Bali and the parrot fish.Â
Still quite dark at 7 o’clock
Cold?
I was knee deep in water and nearly level with the rocks when I took this photo

There were “Shelley shenanigans”? So typical. Does she ever behave?
