Every morning, I wake up with a song in my head (don’t ask me why, i just do..im a bit keen on my tunes so a beat is always drumming away) .
Today, it was Glycerine by Bush, so ofcourse i play it on Spotify and I start getting ready for the beach — that slow, raw, haunting sound that somehow fits the stillness before dawn. Maybe it’s the mood of the song, or maybe it’s just the rhythm I needed before heading down to the beach.
There’s something about the early mornings at Manly that tunes you in, even before you see the ocean. The quiet streets, the hum of the waves in the distance — and then, as you reach the point, the soundtrack shifts.
It’s not Glycerine anymore. It’s the sound of the swimmers.
Have you ever just sat at the point and listened? Not watched, just listened. The splash of arms breaking the surface, the laughter drifting over the water, the steady inhale and exhale of those swimming toward Shelly. It’s like a meditation track you can’t find on Spotify — the sound of people starting their day with courage, connection, and saltwater.
And when I do look up, I love watching the rhythm — the way the ocean moves with the people, not against them. There’s a dance in it, a quiet understanding between sea and swimmer. The tide gives, they glide, and for a few moments, everything moves as one.
This morning there wasn’t that big bright bold & beautiful sunrise — just a cool, silvery calm hanging over the water. But maybe that’s what made the sound stand out even more. No playlist, no lyrics, no beats — just the real, living rhythm of the ocean and the people who swim in it.
