Another moody, beautiful morning, the sea is warm and to mark the end of the week the talk is around having a slow swim…there is even a talk of a unofficial slow 6km. Now, a 6km swim for me is by definition SLOW. I have to miss this one, however you can see these brave peeps below. May the conditions be kind and body strong,

Some of the 6K’s
It turns out slow swimming is indeed a ‘thing’. I quick search found a slow swimming philosophy and people swear by it, focusing on the experience of swimming rather than the destination, less about getting to Shelly and back and more about what you might, see, hear or feel on the swim or in the swim.
Apparently slow swimming promotes swimming for the pure pleasure of experiencing the nature that you are fully immersed in. It includes but I would say is not limited to swimbling, pottering, meandering, sauntering, mooching, toddling, ambling, dipping and bobbing. My favourite, I think coined by Suz Lamont is ‘Sea-ndering’. The site I found Hamilton’s Fitness included cake as an important part of the slow swimming vibe which I definitely support, add coffee and I am on board.

When asked ‘fast or slow’ some said slow, some said fast..these
early bird swimmers are all pretty speedy !
Fun Fact : Swimming is one of the best ways to burn calories. A slower swim can burn over twice the calories that walking does.

Slow, medium a speedy bunch of swimmers here (good looking to 🙂
I found a great article in The Guardian on slow swimming – check it out it is a great read.

For the Speedies
No judgement of the speedsters, the once that swim past me often leaving me chuckling about my ability to swim in a standing still fashion. Let’s face it the swimsuit company is on your side.
Another momentary musing is direct from the turtle, who I hope to see again soon, I found this well penned message of advice apparently translated from turtle talk into English… fine words to live by.

Slipping in happy birthday to Turtle Tink, an ocean swimmer die hard, nature lover
and slow swimming advocate when she sheds her pink flips!!!

Have a great weekend.
Keep on swimming
