and some little observations of our daily ritual-
To know who we are, we need to look back at our past.
Some of the first B and B ers having the post swim chat before work.
One of our first badge ceremony events.
A few B and B ers heading off for the Wednesday night trivia
to answer some questions of the time such as:
What colour is the most dangerous snake in Australia?
And what is the population of Manly?
This was a momentous night for us as I believe this was the night Julie decided on the colour Pink for the B and B.
Forward a few years and the B and B had some fantastic facilities in place.
Notice the integrity police tower in place to check the honesty of those tickers!
These days we rely on Satellite to check the swim routes.
Some reverence to our founders-
This brings me to announce the following ;
Julie Isbill is a local Legend and it just so happens that today, I equaled the great one’s Km’s in the Pacific Challenge. As a mark of respect, I will do a Tubby Tailor when equalling the great Donald Bradnams record innings.
I am retiring from ticking.
Then again, I might change my mind tomorrow, Stuff It !
Today’s observations:
The missing Frosties clinging together to hear Billies take on health food shops.
I did not see the rare Albino Wobbi in this photo
I also did not see Ray
This is beautiful Sophia, and today is her first swim
and after Sophia has broken through her comfort zone
(Warning – slight over exaggeration ahead)
The little things that are said behind people’s backs – like –
He’s nice, she’s nice, I hope so and so is alright. Is he single?
Or in actual order as said on the day – is he single? Is he single? He’s nice, is he single?
A post swim Roz acting out the Dancing Man of 1945
The ability of Lippy to hold his mouth in the open position when a camera is lifted.
Drop camera, raise jaw, raise camera, drop jaw.
Some random gratuitous stuff –
This is the one I really like-
The exhaustion and joy written all over someone’s face after they have just pushed themselves and swam out of their comfort zone with the support of many friends.
Jane Joined us this week and is swimming every day.
Pre Swim Jane
Post Swim Jane
Liz recently took on the Waikiki Rough Water Swim
3.8km and did it in style
From the newbies who swim to the point and around to half way
To the first time cold and beautiful badge recipients
To the first time WWW recipients,
The every day in winter mob.
To the early dark crossings in the middle of winter mob.
Then on to the Frosties
To the distance swimmers, rough water, cole classic and Rottenest swimmers
Not to mention the channel swimmers – so I won’t!
One observation highlighted in Miles’ fantastic speech on Tuesday night regarding his Chanel crossing.
It is a quality I love about the people I meet here –
Rather than negative vibes found everywhere,
– the attitude here is the expectation that we will go outside our comfort zone
and go for it.
It’s expected!
And very very well supported.

Well done on digging up those old photos!
I still remember Governor Phillip’s first swim with the squad. The NE had been blowing all night and there was quite a bit of chop around the point. He was very nervous but made it all the way to Shelly and back. Without flippers.
Gosh, all feels like yesterday..
Thanks for that little stroll down memory lane Shaun!

I am so happy you remembered that Lippy.
Those were the days.
He wasn’t a fan of the harbor swim for some reason.

Absolutely AWESOME blog Sean. I love the pic of Pauline – it was great having her greet us all as she came in as we 7 o’shockers entered. Tayls – no fair to Dorset! He is pointing at his gorgeous new candy striped Budgie Smugglers. First time blog feature yesterday & he is in today as well.

What about the day just before Christmas ’67 when Harold Holt swam with the Pink Caps – remember that? He was such a bad zig-zagger that he headed East when he rounded the point, tried to turn back SW to get to Shelly but zig-zagged so badly that he was last seen off the Mornington Peninsula ! Luckily the rumours about the submarines etc distracted everyone from the fate of the only Pink Capper who never made it back !

Shaun I needed to clarify something.
Have you equalled Julie’s km’s on the PC or her ticks for those km’s…just curious.
Fab blog.

Another amazing offshoot of the B&B is those amazing triathletes who have represented Australia at World Triathlon Championships. I know of at least two: a beautiful young redheaded lady and an esteemed legal eagle gun. There may be more

Yes Zs, I can confirm Harold was picked up by the integrity police for talking politics.
We have not lost one pink capper yet and we all know the rule of ditching your cap prior to being lost at sea. This is for the consideration of pink cap record keeping.
Harold is now believed to be somewhere in the UK searching for Stephanie No-Pants.

Thank you for the clarification question Nurse J
I was expecting this comment and I come prepared.
Some months ago, I called in the in the Integrity Police for a voluntary audit.
I can confirm that we have both ticked the same Km’s.

Excellent blog covering the full span of history and activity of this very inclusive group – from the sublime swimmers (recent Channel conquerors and bear cottage swimmers and triathletes) to the ridiculous ( me)! The photos of Sophia, Pauline and Jane – joy.
