The Last Hoorah

September 28, 20196

One of my patients told me yesterday the weather was going to change on the weekend. He called it the last hoorah from the winter season. Let’s hope so, it was greyer and colder and a bit windier when I woke up to head down to Manly.

If that’s what the last of winter looks like I wouldn’t mind more .

I bumped into a new father walking his 10 week old baby and asked if I could take their photo, it was beautiful.

Ian Forster pointed out to me that Jen Turner is back swimming after being in Sudan for a year working as a nurse. She had a fascinating story to tell about working for Medair and the places she stayed. A truly challenging form of nursing and medicine, not for most of us. Nice to have her back and hope the water didnt’ freeze you Jen.

Some of our familiar faces hanging around pre swim and facing the water together

Note: when blogger approaches for photo keep eyes open 🙂

I went turtle spotting today but found only fish and a PJ shark thanks to Roz

Elaine was out turtle spotting also, posing for a photo instead of taking photos with Jenny and Heather, fun at the toilet block

Then I was told the WOWS were having their own badge ceremony as they were out of town for last weeks ceremony. I was highly impressed with the Royal Far West building and forgot to take a card to ask for a tour. If you want to look around contact Ian to arrange it as a group.

I was kept company by these gorgous young girls as I dried off, their mother was swimming and still coming in.

This is the A team speeding past me at the point. They stroke and kick faster than anyone in the group I think, never swam with the early group mind you.

Stats: 210 swimmers, 8 new! Temp 17.3 degrees

The Monthly Dinner – 8th October 2019 – Guest Speaker

The Next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 8th October at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest on the night will be Local Manly physiotherapist, Jim Burke. Jim will speak about shoulder injuries in swimmers. He will cover a brief outline of the mechanics of the shoulder as well as common causes of injury and a few stretches and exercises that are great in helping prevent ‘swimmer’s shoulder’.

Please book early for this event as it is sure to be popular. The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential. To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book at www.boldandbeautifulmanly.com.au/bb-bluewater-monthly-dinner.html

I”m helping organise a 10km walk in October, from Kirribilli to Rose Bay to support a womens refuge I help. Anyone interested find them on facebook or the web site: www.maryshouse.org.au

That’s all folks, have a lovely weekend, the suns come out.

Edwina.

Fun at the toilet block, indeed. Sorry I missed it (I think)

Great blog. I hope Jen will do a talk at a dinner on working in the Sudan. That would be eye opening. The Far West renovations do look great. Count me in on your walk. If I don’t make it I can always catch a bus!

I told her she should do a talk, let’s speak to Ian. Absolutely you can get a bus for part of walk, there’s a sausage sizzle at the end.
