With the patter of rain at about 5am this morning I was straining to see if I could hear any accompanying wind, but from the depths of my dooner there was nothing to suggest it would anything but glassy.
My first look at 6:15 saw a southerly bump but direct south so hopes were high for some quintessential Fairy Bower glass.
We were greeted on arrival with what we wanted , clean protected southerly calm in the bay.
With a half metre, 11 second direct south swell and little more than a zephyr of SSE wind making it to the clubhouse, a low tide at 6:30 and encouraging reports from the early crew, all augered well for another swim to remember. By the looks of the forecast we will see a small push from the South tomorrow but no bigger and dropping to Friday.
The light seemed to ebb as the clouds threatened creating a warm glow out to sea.
It gradually broke up as the sun climbed and the clock ticked on.
It says 21.8 but really it was just a cosy contagious warm that had you wanting more.
With the risk of the outside wetness, numbers were well down today, but some were not missing it for anything.
With no Ian or John to issue the call to water there was more of an early drift and a gentle walk to the point.
After far too many weeks in the North American whiteness, Patrick was back and keen to amongst it.
In fact he led the armada east.
With clear water at the point there was lots to see.
From above and below
Dave the Dusky and his mates were doing the rounds as usual
Lots of fish
Gloomy above water though
A clutch of Duskies on the way home around midway.
Quite a mix of locals this morning
A speed dating gathering by the looks of things
Blue was having no part of it
Someone went steaming by at high speed with just an ankle for ID in the distance
Quite inky on deck though more fun below
The Rainer armband caught on film flashing past
And our only newbie for today encouraged by Dad and made it both ways. Great achievement.
Have a great week people. We can only hope for another great day like that.
Cheers
Brian

Nice one Brian. Love the accuracy.
Even though, I could have sworn it felt more like a 10 second south swell this morning.
