Dolphins

26/09/20250

Not sure how but I swam 3 times today. Each one creeping further into the day. The first started with Brett, Hasko, Simon, Jo and Snoopy sprinting north. Snoopy and I fell under the spell of a corso sandbank and disappeared into the waves for 20 minutes. There goes the Cole Classic 5km training for another day. We spot a pod of dolphins, 200 metres offshore and swim like hell to them. They see us. Leah on a board joins us. At one point we stop as one of the fins looks far too big. Maybe we’ve made a mistake. I eye Leah’s board, looks like it could fit 3. Then we are surrounded by 6 dolphins, a baby, one with a battered fin. Circles then gone. So good.

Baby Spice snaps at 615am. Crowds are forming. A big Friday. After the swim I run away, it’s actually too busy. It’s Friday.

That we don’t even care, as restless as we areWe feel the pullIn the land of a thousand guilts and poured cement

Lamented and assured to the lights and towns belowFaster than the speed of soundFaster than we thought we’d goBeneath the sound of hope

Snoopy and Jo still searching for the dollies. They did a couple of laps up and down.

Swim number 2. Swim coaching with Mark Bemer. As Mark said let’s get your left arm back in action again. The water is slightly cooler, or it may be me. A heated jacket (Ororo thx Kath and Di) almost sorts my core in between. A bit overcast so the warming sun not so much.

One hour later, Special K and I do a lap of Cabbage Tree Bay. Latin dancer, mystic, and my personal swim coach and superb free diver and swimmer. Some more left arm tips, patience, slow down, engage the core, and then we get distracted with eagle rays, Port Jacksons and schools of fish. A bit milky towards Shelly. Warm. And bumpy with a North Westerly wind picking up.

The sun now up by 10am. Work from beach, emails, we pretend to be productive.

Thanks for the 3 swims, 2 coffees and 1 coconut Team. Remember don’t let your true love run cold!
