Swimming into Spring

02/09/20250

Spring has arrived, and with it comes that subtle shift you can feel not just in the air, but in the ocean too. This morning the sea was 18.1 degrees, flat as glass, with visibility so clear it felt like swimming through liquid light.

A large school of fish shimmered around us, moving as one — a reminder of the season’s abundance and energy. After months of winter swimming — bracing against cold waves and grey skies — today felt like a reset. The ocean was generous, joyful, and I was lucky enough to share it with one of my dearest friends.

I watched her duck dive gracefully, reaching for the sandy bottom, while I floated above, taking in the shimmer of fish and the clarity of the water. There was laughter, ease, and that sense of childlike wonder that only the ocean can bring. It felt as though the sea itself was celebrating the shift of the season, urging us to let go of winter’s heaviness and step into something brighter.

Spring brings with it a certain lightness, a sense of moving forward. Just as the tides shift and the coastline renews itself, the season offers us the chance to begin again. Each swim feels like a reminder that no matter what has passed, there is always space for fresh energy, new beginnings, and the joy of what’s still to come.
