Sunday morning, praise the dawning

06/08/20174

Another spectacular sunrise rewarded those of us who left the warm comfort of the doona today. The chilly air just served to spice things up. Weather app, I have a bone to pick with you, I don’t for one second believe your report of a 12.8 degree morning.

My drive down to Manly (via Curly) was a continuous display of stunning sun, sky and ocean. If I’d been any earlier I would have stopped for photos. Maybe next time. Manly looked ok, though, don’t you think?

Some people will do anything to be in the blog…

Even this guy

Did someone say let’s go?

It was Brendan’s 500 today. Here is is looking happy  at Shelley and then doing the let’s go for the return run. Congrats!

If you want to see happy faces, look no further

For me, a leisurely scenic cruise back to take in the underwater wonders

These were not far from Shelley

Port Jackson shark, close to the half way pool

Crimson banded wrasse at the white rocks

old wives close by

Fellow wanderers

Quite a bit of turbulence at the Point

Some of the WOWs enjoying a coffee and a chat in the warming post-swim sun

And now for some plugs and other information.

Last night, Mermaid Cheryl and her competition partner Kelly picked up this gold medal

2017 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence Winners Surf Sports Sport Team of the Year – Open First Aid Team (Freshwater). Fantastic work, ladies.
Peter Barfod has access to some very useful mesh bags that you can take into the water. There are hooks you can attach a camera to, or alternatively you can put it in the bag. If you are in the habit of taking plastic out of the water, the bag is a perfect place to keep it while you swim. A very functional unit. The $90 price tag may seem a bit steep but this reflects the cost of development and the quality materials. See Peter if you are interested.

At last count yesterday’s cake stall for Research in to Pancreatic cancer has raised over $900. Thanks to everyone for baking and buying. A quick note – shivering in the cold water raises your metabolism so you will burn those calories faster.

B&B MONTHLY DINNER – GUEST SPEAKER

The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 8th August at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker on the night will be travel agent Brett Goulston, whose talk is entitled “20 places you should visit even though you may never have heard about them and probably can’t pronounce them”

Brett is co-owner of Blue Dot Travel (with two of our B&B swimmers, Brod Brennan & Joanne Coughlan). All three are travel tragics who have travelled to most of the corners of the globe and are passionate travellers, swimmers and walkers.

The business focuses on mature/young at heart travellers who are looking for unique experiences (think Madagascar, Kamchatka, Nagaland, Ethiopia, Caucuses, Iceland, etc). To celebrate the occasion they will be giving away 5 lucky door prizes on the night as well as offering Bold & Beautiful members a $250 discount off any trip they book in the next 60 days.

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.
