08/12/201910

The past week has been gorgeous with water temperature hovering around 20 degrees and almost perfect swimming conditions.

I say ALMOST perfect because as you probably know, Shelly has been off limits due to pollution. There has been no official reason given but it is believed that the sewer line has ruptured slightly causing some leakage into the bay.

The walkway to Shelly only came about because of the construction of the main sewer line in 1898  linking the Manly area to the North Head outlet.

Considering the destructive force of the 2016 storms it is unbelievable that there have not been a lot more problems with the sewer line.

Luckily we have a whole ocean to swim in, so this week we headed north in pristine waters towards Queenscliff.  I love the occasional change, especially this swim with the shifting patterns of the underwater sand being quite mesmerising.

Luckily BnBers are so adaptable. This got me thinking about the BnB community as a whole and it doesn’t just totally revolve around swimming. There are so many sub groups, catering to everything from cycling, language courses, book clubs to poker playing and certainly the most important, happy hour at the Bavarian on Friday evenings. Plus there are always people heading off on adventures with other swimmers or solo pursuits. You can see a whole lot more about what is happening on the Facebook page “Bold and Beautiful Swimmers” https://www.facebook.com/groups/504973999537658/?ref=bookmarks

So, looking back on the last week here is a glimpse of what happen in and out of the water.

TODAY was chilly and overcast and with Shelly still closed, we went north again.

To the pipe and on to the beach

That’s all today, gotta rush off.

So that excellent blog was a rush job? I am curious what you would have done if not rushing off when there is no room for improvement. By the way Jen and Ali found a mans shirt on the sandy floor of the ocean. Maybe it belongs to the person who tried to swim away from police and stripped on his way to Fairy Bower (arrested in undies at the Bower after the police helicopter lit him up)

I guess they don’t call them the Snowy Mountains for nuttin’! What a lot of news you’ve packed into your blog-of-a-day. Another creative tour de force. Thanks T-bird.

Wonderful blog, Michael! And delivered so promptly. I really can’t find fault in anything – believe me, I’m trying :). What an adventurous bunch we are. Swimming in ash today will linger in the memory (especially as we’ll probably be doing the same again tomorrow!).

Hey thanks Michael. Both the written journal and video are excellent! Just to mention Courtney came third in the 9km under 50’s without a wetsuit. Congratulations to her.
