I literally have nothing to contribute today ! not ideal as I’m supposed to be writing the blog, but at least I showed up (please refer to previous blog re. the 80% of life rule) … which is more than what the communal camera did ! … the swim starts at 7am Elaine !! … how many times !! 😉

So, I arrived this morning at the crack of, well, Bruce !

I wasn’t sure whether to wolf-whistle or park my bike ! I did think about inserting a 50c to see what would happen but it was already moving around quite a lot and I didn’t have any change … chances are would never see that 50c or Bruce again.
My next thought was for the Waikiki tourist board. Do they know about the bum deal their beautiful piece of the world is getting ? or does Brucey get some cracking discounts on Jetstar for putting these on ?? … the jury is split on this one.
Back to the swim, or well, at least my foot. This one is going in the “hint and tips” folder for new bloggers:
Somebody reached their 1000k’s today – allegedly. I keep telling management the swim-log system is massivley floored but if you’re not going to fix it … well … then you’re asking for it to be flouted

When Lainey did eventually decide to show up, she, as always, put in a heroic effort on my part, and I have to give credit to the amazing machine that she is for the rest of this post. Thanks Lainey xx
This is what really happened:

Congratulations on YOUR 100k Sarah ! awesome achievement ! 🙂
And I can’t leave without a special metion to the little lady pictured at Shelly, who at 9 years of age (I think) went you through the waves this morning !! Wow !!
Such a fun and inclusive group that we are, I fully anticpiate waking up to a horse head on my pillow tomorrow morning because of my late submission. My phone is on fire with calls from Head Office and B&B mafia as I type. Honestly, not even Anna Wintour has to deal with this sh*t !! 😉
Enjoy whats left of the weekend ! So glad I waited for the clouds to appear before I started this 🙂
Jonesy (but mostly Lainey-loo)

Congrats sarah! And by the way did anyone get a photo of the 200 foot high (my rough estimate) wave the point today at 658am?

1 or 100 or 1000K….just another swim and probably more of an achievement for those doing their first K in the group!
Still, really fantastic morning celebrting and thank you all for making it so very special:) Very touching indeed.
Thx for the footnote and for warming up the sash, Jonesy:)) You can do it too!!

My mask and snorkel were whipped off me at the point today. In the vain hope that anyone found them, the mask has a black fabric Manly Dive Centre headband. And Peter Ley has asked me to report that the same happened to his light blue swim goggles. The Steyne Triangle claims more victims!

Went out through the surf as usual (be kind) but as unusual a couple of really big waves bowled me over.
Came back up got my breath and another couple hit me, big ones …………. like pipeline curling over.
Repeat 3 or 4 times until there is a lot of sea water in stomach and some in lungs and raised heart rate and start thinking, “Hello Grandson Ben, Goodbye Grand Dude Bill”
Turned back, got to the shallow end ….. the beach….. coughed up water, belched up water, staggered up to the warm, dry sand thinking about Life, The Universe and Everything. Like a shipwrecked sailor in the movies.
Another swimmer said, “Jeezus ! That was refreshing, I reckon I had sea water in every orifice !!!”
I’ll stick to the benches …………..swimming is for the birds, the fishes… wotevah !

Wow what achievements all round. This long distance visitor is always so impressed with what goes on here! Thanks DWSS and your lovely wife for swimming with us not-so-confidant swimmers. It was the first time I didn’t feel too tired thanks to your coaching. And thanks to you Lainey Loo for your nutty/seedy thingies. YUM! And I learnt a new adjective: the surf was described as “setty”. Interesting. Have a good week, B & B!

Super job Jonesy.
Congratulations on your 100k Sarah. Living legend.
I didn’t get to Shelly in time to hear your speach.
I hope that wonderful husband was mentioned for those endless km of company he kept you.
A tribute to the forefathers would also be good. I.e. Pythagoras for setting up the course. 🙂
I must say, it was an honor to stand between yourself and Nick. Company of greats!
Congratulations.
