Sunday: Seize Day … Swim Ocean … Eat Cake

21/12/201418

Storchy on the lamb at 5.50 a.m.

Yes; I can read the new clock …

Connor and new Budgies:  His wife bought them online in Ireland, and then had to post them back over here to Connor …

Bolderdashers Nan, Lee, Midge and Kenny: “What’s that pack of seagulls feeding on?”  The central beach is awash with seaweed today, which attracts lice.   This four will swim through a flock of sea-lice en route to Freshwater

Manly Lifesaver David is originally from Corindi up by Hunter.  He saved a couple last week, using the board.  “Germans.  They could swim, but were in exactly the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Happy birthday Lucy!

Claudia is originally from Lima, Peru.  After a long time with us, this will be her last swim.  She is moving back home with her family to Switzerland.  Go well, Claudia!  (There will be cake …)

Anne has strung the tree nicely …

Freya Green and Caoimhe Daly

Manly Nippers training on the reel – under watchful eye of MSLSC’s Education Officer.  I love it.  Reel reminds me of yearly summer holidays on surf beach at Warrnambool in 1960s …

Julie, Jenny and Michelle are raising funds for Coastreck 2015, the fundraising initiative for Fred Hollows Foundation (as talked about four months ago at Freshwater restaurant night).

Alex’s tropical and oceanic tattoo includes a fighter plane.  Nice!

Johns Bond and Kelly farewell Claudia, with cakes unboxed at the Sunny Benches

Handmade jewellery also available at the Benches!

Newbie Kelly (left) and regular Abbey.  These women row for Collaroy SLSC, and tell me that the main drive in a lifeboat comes from leg extension. I love watching any rowing crew in training.  Always out at dawn or in the twilight; trekking about the harbour, or reaching along the coast.  It must be a great sport.

The stage direction for this photo did not come from me!!!

Lainey, Chris, Morgan (rear), Amanda and Heather … flying the Bolds flag last Sunday in Steyne Hotel (how do you pronounce ‘Steyne’?).  Many hundreds of santas, grinches and elves helped raise over $30,000 for Stewart House.  Some bloke with a lanyard and a bucket of home-made stickers managed to raise a further five grand for himself, according to a local paper’s report.

Six or ten kilometres:  the distance swimmers are in full swing now.  They recommend a wetsuit, as you will get cold during these massive swims.  If you are considering smashing out six or ten kilometres too, here is an information insert:

Please support the Can Too swim on 11th January, 2015. Details below.

Just passing by:  Adam Moore (Bolds swimmer and perfect husband)

One more of Storchy, breaking the day …

Thursday’s Christmas morning:  Swim as normal, but fancy Xmas dress is encouraged.  After the swim, there is a breakfast at Shelly beach with/without barbeque – bring all your own food. Usually attended by people who don’t have to go to family dinners etc. Very relaxed event.

Temp:            21

Newbies:        28

Swimmers:    The usual summer crush of pink

Great photos and Blog Roger. Captured the festive vibe within our wonderful community. I didn’t get to meet Claudia however I hope she had a special time in Manly. Tasty edible goodies on offer and hope the lovely ladies raised much for Fred Hollows. Thank you for the support with my handmade jewellery creations. The wandering hands made good back scratching too!

One question, according to the attendance stats, you did a swim to Shelly and Baby Edwards did a Bolderdash, how did that happen ?!?

Claudia, I feel sorry that I missed your last swim today. If I come to Switzerland, we’ll go for a swim in Lake Zurich (but only with 2 wetsuits on). Have a safe trip home, Merry Christmas, and all the best for you and your family.

Roger you were so busy being paparazzi this morning I’m surprised you managed to squeeze in a swim! Well done on both counts. A lovely blog as usual, especially the “information insert” for those intending to do the 6 or 10 K swim.
Claudia: we will miss you! Have a safe trip back to Europe!

I think there are more cakes for Fred Hollows tomorrow so bring some coins. Also Annie’s jewellery make great gifts! Safe trip back to Switzerland Claudia.
